Newton volleyball improves in each set during loss to 4A No. 6 Pella

Cardinals end conference slate with loss to Lady Dutch

PELLA — The Newton volleyball team improved its score in every set against Class 4A No. 6 Pella on Tuesday.

But the Cardinals lost to the rival Dutch 25-8, 25-14, 25-19 during a Little Hawkeye Conference matchup.

Pella, which has won six straight matches and nine of its last 10, had a 5-1 advantage in aces and posted a 46-18 surplus in kills. The Lady Dutch also had a kill efficiency of .340.

Macy Lampe

Delaney Woollums had eight kills and seven digs, Macy Lampe chipped in seven kills and five digs and Isabelle Rawlins posted 18 assists and seven digs to lead the Cardinals.

Chloe Swank registered 18 digs, Sloan Brodersen had seven digs, Addie Ratcliff put down two kills and Lola Rivera contributed two digs.

The Cardinals (11-14, 1-5 in the LHC) were 40-of-41 in serves with Rawlins going 12-of-12, Woollums finishing 7-of-7 and Brodersen serving 8-of-9. Newton’s kill efficiency was .029.

Rawlins is now 246-of-249 in serves this season and the Cardinals’ serve percentage is 95, which is the highest in 4A.

Woollums now has 232 kills, which is a career best for a single season.

Katie Scheckel led Pella (37-7, 5-1) with 12 assists, nine kills and nine digs and Emma Eekhoff added 13 assists, five kills and six digs.
