NCMP dunks Carroll, Boone in road triangular

Aquagirls win all 11 events, improve to 14-1

BOONE — Another strong night in the pool led to a pair of wins for the Newton-Colfax-Mingo-Pella girls’ swim team on Tuesday.

The Aquagirls won all 11 events, finished 1-2 in nine of them and cruised to wins over Boone and Carroll.

No. 12 NCMP defeated the No. 31 Toreadors 77-24 and downed No. 48 Carroll 83-6.

Host Boone fared better than the Tigers mostly because it went 1-2 in diving.

The Aquagirls grabbed the two fastest times in all three relays, Tori White and Harper Barton each were part of four wins and Addison Van Maanen and Alex Riney tallied three wins and one runner-up finish each.

NCMP opened its night with a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The foursome of White, Van Maanen, Izzy Lane and Riney won the race in 2 minutes, 0.97 seconds and the team of Hailey Dickerson, Anna DeVries, Paige Benson and Peyton Ray finished second in 2:05.33.

Barton, Benson, Ray and Riney won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:46.51 and Dickerson, DeVries, Lane and Temple Barton took second in 1:53.65.

The winning 400 freestyle relay team included Ray, White, Van Maanen and Harper Barton. They finished in 3:53.42. The foursome of Dickerson, Avery Meyer, DeVries and Riney took second in 4:15.45.

Harper Barton

The Aquagirls were 1-2 overall in five of the eight individual races. They finished 1-2 against Carroll in all 11 events.

Harper Barton won both the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Her winning time in the 100 freestyle was clocked in 55.64 seconds and Ray was the runner-up in 59.33.

Harper Barton won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.75 and Van Maanen finished second in 1:15.54.

White claimed wins in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly. Her winning time in the 100 butterfly was clocked in 1:05.67 and Lane was second in 1:08.45.

White won the 100 backstroke in 1:05.32 and Dickerson was third overall in 1:11.61.

Addison Van Maanen

Riney (26.79) and Benson (27.68) finished 1-2 in the 50 freestyle, Addison Van Maanen (2:24.81) and Alexa Van Maanen (2:43.43) were 1-2 in the 200 individual medley and the Aquagirls were 1-3 overall in the 200 and 500 freestyles.

Meyer won the 500 freestyle in 6:12.05 and Emalee Weuve (6:30.49) was third against Boone and second versus Carroll.

Temple Barton won the 200 freestyle in 2:13.59 and Peyton Phillips (2:24.96) was second against Carroll and third in the matchup with Boone.

Notes: The NCMP junior varsity won all three relays and Temple Barton won both the JV 50 freestyle and the JV 100 breaststroke. Kimberlee Miller was part of all three winning JV relays and won the 200 freestyle and Alexa Van Maanen and Phillips were part of three JV victories.
