Nine wins propel NCMP to win over Des Moines Lincoln

Aquagirls improve to 12-1 after dual win over Railsplitters

DES MOINES — Addison Van Maanen, Tori White and Harper Barton were part of three wins, the Newton-Colfax-Mingo-Pella girls swim team finished 1-2 in four events and the Aquagirls posted nine wins total during a road victory over Des Moines Lincoln on Thursday.

No. 12 NCMP improved to 12-1 in duals following its 107-73 triumph over the No. 36 Railsplitters.

The Aquagirls won all three relays, Barton won two individual races and the other victories came from White, Van Maanen, Peyton Ray and Alex Riney.

Harper Barton

NCMP finished 1-2 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Hailey Dickerson, Anna DeVries, Izzy Lane and Temple Barton won the race in 1 minute, 54.34 seconds. The runner-up foursome featured Julia Nedder, Brilea Moffitt, Kimberlee Miller and Alexa Van Maanen and they finished in 2:03.26.

Lane, White and Addison Van Maanen all were part of two relay wins. The trio teamed up with Riney to win the 200 medley relay in 1:59.52. Dickerson, DeVries, Paige Benson and Temple Barton finished third in 2:06.26.

White and Addison Van Maanen teamed up with Ray and anchor Harper Barton to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:56.53. Dickerson, Riney, Lane and DeVries took third in 4:13.37.

The 1-2 finishes in individual races came in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly and the 100 freestyle.

Riney won the 50 freestyle in 26.74 seconds and Benson was the runner-up in 27.61.

White (1:06.71) edged Lane (1:06.94) to win the 100 butterfly. Both swimmers posted season-best times.

Harper Barton (56.25 seconds) also edged Ray (56.96) to win the 100 freestyle. Ray won the 200 freestyle in 2:05.45.

Addison Van Maanen swam to a win in the 200 individual medley. She hit the wall in 2:24.82. She also was third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.10.

Harper Barton posted a season-best time of 1:09.97 to win the 100 breaststroke, White (1:04.98) and Dickerson (1:12.42) were 2-3 in the 100 backstroke and Avery Meyer (6:16.69) finished third in the 500 freestyle.

Peyton Ray

White lost a battle to the wall with Lincoln’s Samantha Douds (1:04.66) by .32 seconds in the 100 backstroke.

Notes: NCMP’s margin of victory was 34 points but would have been wider had it not been for Lincoln’s 1-2 finish in the 1-meter diving competition. … Miller (28.87), Emalee Weuve (28.94) and Veronica Mark (30.43) were 1-2-3 in the JV 50 freestyle and Peyton Phillips (1:06.37) won the JV 100 freestyle. Madison Scott (7:50.43) won the JV 500 freestyle and Alexa Van Maanen (1:21.47) edged Miller (1:21.98) to win the JV 100 breaststroke.
