L-S volleyball falls twice in SICL action

Hawks can’t hold early lead against Iowa Valley

SULLY — The Lynnville-Sully volleyball team couldn’t hold an early advantage against Iowa Valley on Tuesday.

The Hawks won the opening set of their South Iowa Cedar League contest, but the Tigers rallied for a 17-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-21 road win.

Lynnville-Sully had six aces and missed seven serves in the loss.

Alaina Roberts and Kate Harthoorn both had double-doubles for the Hawks. Roberts led the way with 11 assists, 14 digs, four kills and two aces and Harthoorn finished with 10 assists, 15 digs and two kills.

Roberts ranks first on the team with 175 assists, 150 digs and 26 aces and Harthoorn is second with 154 assists and 144 digs.

Jakeria Hay registered six kills and seven digs, Terriyah Carter had a career-high 25 digs and chipped in two assists and three kills and Ava Brummel put down five kills. Brummel leads the team with 81 kills, while Hay has 80.

Ashlan Cordes collected three kills and two digs, Penelope Robinson posted three kills, Breah Lowry tallied five digs and Sevanah Routier added four digs.

The Hawks (8-17, 1-6 in the SICL) were 63-of-70 in serves with Lowry finishing 7-of-7 and Harthoorn going 6-of-6. Routier was successful on 14-of-15 serves and Carter was 10-of-11.

Belle Plaine 3, Lynnville-Sully 0

BELLE PLAINE — Roberts and Harthoorn had eight assists and three digs to lead L-S, but the visiting Hawks couldn’t overcome 14 aces from Belle Plaine during a 25-17, 25-17, 25-21 road conference loss.

Hay collected six kills and six digs, Lowry added three kills and nine digs and Brummel put down four kills in the loss.

Carter added two kills and three digs and Brooke Harthoorn served up two aces.

The Hawks were 42-of-51 in serves with Kate Harthoorn finishing 10-of-10 and Brooke Harthoorn going 9-of-10.

Kayleah Laughlin led Belle Plaine (13-10, 6-1) with 10 kills, 11 digs and eight aces. Allison Hoover added 20 assists and six digs.
