PLEASANTVILLE — The Lynnville-Sully boys cross country team faced off against one of the best teams in Class 2A on Monday.

The Class 1A No. 16 Hawks did not leave Pleasantville Country Club with a team title, but they did grab three top-10 finishes in the boys’ 5K race.

Class 2A No.7 Chariton finished 1-2 and won the team title with 26 points, but the Hawks were easily in second with 59 points.

The 13-team field also featured Colfax-Mingo, which placed ninth with 215 points.

“The Hawks just stepped up to the challenge and had themselves focused and ready to go to take themselves to another level,” L-S head cross country coach Darin Arkema said. “The boys will be without Sam Terlouw for a number of meets as he recovers and heals from an injury. That means everyone is needed to step up and fill in the void where Sam had been running. They did a terrific job of that tonight.”

Colton Alberts headlined the Hawks in third. He crossed the finish line in 17 minutes, 0.5 seconds.

Hendrick Lowry placed fifth in 17:15.82 and Blake Wilmesmeier (17:41.04) was ninth.

“Colton, Hendrick and Blake all ran in the top 10 places,” Arkema said. “Neither of these three are going to take it easy on the other two and they just keep working to make themselves and each other better.”
