Hawks split four matches at GMG tournament

SULLY — A significant disadvantage in kills and a negative kill efficiency plagued the Lynnville-Sully volleyball team on Tuesday.

The Hawks couldn’t overcome a strong game from Ema Roberts at the net during a 25-21, 25-16, 25-17 home loss to HLV during the South Iowa Cedar League opener for both teams.

The Warriors had a 32-12 advantage in kills and a .256 kill efficiency. HLV also had an 8-5 surplus in aces.

Alaina Roberts led the Hawks (7-4, 0-1 in the SICL) with six assists, two kills, 12 digs and three aces.

Tatum Huyser

Tatum Huyser finished with four kills, two blocks and five digs, Kate Harthoorn dished out six assists and produced seven digs and Jakeira Hay added two kills and eight digs.

Ava Brummel put down three kills, Sevanah Routier tallied three digs and Breah Lowry registered two digs.

The Hawks were 42-of-51 in serves with Harthoorn finishing 11-of-12 and Alaina Roberts serving 10-of-11.

Ema Roberts led HLV (5-9, 1-0) with 16 kills, nine digs and two aces. Lily Randall added seven kills, 10 digs and three aces and Erilea Kupka chipped in 24 assists and seven digs.

Hawks split four matches at GMG tournament

GARWIN — The Hawks had little trouble with a pair of Iowa Star Conference South Division opponents but lost a tight match with conference rival Montezuma during the GMG tournament on Saturday.

Lynnville-Sully downed Collins-Maxwell 21-12, 22-20 and defeated Meskwaki Settlement School 21-18, 21-9. Montezuma edged the Hawks 21-16, 12-21, 15-7 and South Tama County swept L-S 21-6, 21-19.

In the win over the Spartans, Alaina Roberts finished with six assists, three kills, nine digs and three aces to lead the Hawks.

Huyser added seven kills and eight digs, Harthoorn chipped in eight assists and four digs and Hay tallied four kills, three blocks and four digs.

Jakeira Hay

Terriyah Carter and Penelope Robinson produced six digs, Brummel had four digs and Brooke Hardeman collected three digs.

The Hawks were 30-of-33 in serves with seven aces.

Jaelynn Poage led led Collins-Maxwell (1-11) with three kills and two assists and Abby Tschantz chipped in six digs.

Alaina Roberts registered six assists, five digs and four aces in the Hawks’ win over Meskwaki Settlement (1-6).

Harthoorn added eight assists and eight digs, Huyser posted five kills and six digs and Hay tallied three kills and five digs.

Brummel put down three kills, Hardeman collected five digs and Carter added four digs and two aces.

L-S was 30-of-33 in serves with Huyser, Hardeman and Carter all finishing 6-of-6.

Of the Hawks’ seven wins to start the season, four have come against Iowa Star Conference South Division programs.

In the loss to the Bravettes (8-9), Hay led the Hawks with six kills, 13 digs and two aces.

Harthoorn finished with 10 digs and four assists, Huyser registered 10 digs and Alaina Roberts collected nine assists and eight digs.

Breah Lowry

Lowry finished with a career-high 13 digs, Brummel put down six kills and Hardeman and Robinson added five and four digs, respectively.

The Hawks were 33-of-40 in serves with Huyser going 8-of-8 and Harthoorn serving 8-of-9.

Kylee Larmore and Lauryn Larmore led Montezuma with six kills and 11 digs, respectively. The Bravettes were 41-of-44 in serves.

Alaina Roberts finished with three assists, two kills and two digs in the loss to South Tama County.

Hay finished with four digs and two kills, Huyser added three digs and two kills and Harthoorn chipped in two assists and two digs. Brummel put down two kills and Routier produced two digs.

Terriyah Carter

The Hawks were 19-of-25 in serves with Hay going 6-of-6.

Janette Cervantes led the Trojans (6-11) with four kills and six digs and Paisley Bro collected six kills. South Tama County was 35-of-39 in serves with eight aces.
