C-M boys finish eighth, girls ninth at Wildwood Park

Sullivan Wilkins, Hosbond lead Tigerhawk cross country teams in season opener

OTTUMWA — Sullivan Wilkins produced a huge personal-best time and Ashlynn Hosbond led the Colfax-Mingo girls in her prep debut as both Tigerhawks finished in the top 20 at Wildwood Park on Thursday.

The Colfax-Mingo cross country teams opened its season in a meet hosted by Pekin and the boys finished eighth while the girls were ninth.

Wilkins placed 14th in the boys’ 5K race. He crossed the finish line in a personal-best 19 minutes, 19.27 seconds.

Owen Ament (20:43.49) finished 29th, Harrison Rhone (21:02.54) placed 32nd and Ryan Moore (25:37.06) made his prep debut in 89th. Asher Knutson (35.03.04) completed C-M’s lineup in 109th.

The C-M boys scored 205 points and were eighth in the 11-team field.

Danville won the meet with 35 points and Van Buren (55) was second. Pekin (82) finished third, while Fairfield (117) and Louisa-Muscatine (121) completed the top five.

North Mahaska (200) was five points better than C-M in seventh and Montezuma placed ninth with 227 points. Keota and Sigourney had incomplete teams.

Van Buren’s Lincoln Bainbridge won the boys’ race in 17:10.15. Danville’s Jackson Shacklett was the runner-up in 17:32.55.

Hosbond’s prep debut resulted in a 19th-place finish. Her initial 5K time was clocked at 24:40.76.

Shae Wilkins (25:43.82) finished 30th, Mallory Sipma (26:58.5) was 37th and Lilyan Hadsall (29:43.51) took 58th.

Foreign exchange student Laila Kwaskiewicz made her prep debut and finished 66th in 31:34.17. Devan Chadwick was 71st in 33:28.06 and Ava Van Maaren (coaches had her at 35:00) also made her prep debut but a timing issue didn’t have her for an official time.

Danville won the girls team title with 66 points, while Ottumwa (88), Pekin (96), Louisa-Muscatine (97) and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (128) completed the top five.

Montezuma (153) and North Mahaska (162) were sixth and seventh, respectively. Sigourney had an incomplete team.

Pekin’s Chloe Gasser won the girls’ race in 20:02.69 and Danville’s Alaina Gourley was the runner-up in 21:01.68.
