Eight area players earn all-conference softball honors in SICL

Lynnville-Sully’s Conover grabs first-team selection

Alexy Conover

Lynnville-Sully senior Alexy Conover ranked in the top 10 in the South Iowa Cedar League in four offensive categories and had the seventh-most strikeouts as a pitcher for the Hawks this summer.

For her efforts, Conover earned a spot on the all-conference first team in her final season. She was one of five Hawks who landed on the all-SICL softball squad after L-S finished 5-10 in conference play.

Colfax-Mingo struggled with a very young roster, but sophomore Brianna Freerksen led the Tigerhawks with a second-team nod. C-M was 1-14 in league play.

Ava Brummel

All-conference recognition is based on statistics inside conference play only.

Joining Conover on the all-conference team from Lynnville-Sully were freshmen Ava Brummel and Peyton Sharp, sophomore Kate Harthoorn and senior Morgan Jones. Brummel and Sharp both were second-team selections, while the honorable mention picks went to Jones and Harthoorn.

Colfax-Mingo’s honorable mention choices were sophomore Olivia Rausch and freshman Dakota Allen.

Peyton Sharp

Conover earned a spot on the first team as a utility player. She batted .429 and had an on-base percentage of .468. Her 24 hits ranked tied for fifth in the SICL, while her nine doubles tied for the conference lead. She also tied for seventh with two homers and ranked eighth with 39 total bases. Conover added three runs, 13 RBIs and five walks and had a fielding percentage of .930.

As a pitcher, Conover was 3-7 with a 5.11 earned run average. Her 53 strikeouts in 61 2/3 innings ranked seventh in the league.

Brummel was a second-team selection as an infielder. She led the Hawks and ranked ninth in the SICL with a batting average of .467. Her .547 OBP ranked fifth in the league and she also tied for seventh in the SICL with six doubles and 16 RBIs.

Morgan Jones

Brummel finished with 21 hits, 12 runs, 27 total bases and two steals. Her six walks tied for the team lead and her two hit by pitches ranked tied for fifth in the conference. Her fielding percentage was .947.

Sharp batted .259 and had an OBP of .328. She finished with 14 hits, 14 runs, two doubles, four RBIs, three walks, 16 total bases, three steals and zero errors in the field. She also ranked tied for second in the league with three hit by pitches.

Jones batted .300 and had an OBP of .327. She registered 15 hits, 13 runs, three RBIs, two walks, 15 total bases and led the Hawks with nine steals. Her fielding percentage was .833.

Kate Harthoorn

Harthoorn batted .289 and finished with an OBP of .373. She tied for the team lead with six walks and added 13 hits, 13 runs, two doubles, nine RBIs, 15 total bases and seven steals and her fielding percentage was .862.

Freerksen led Colfax-Mingo with a batting average of .349 and an OBP of .481 in her first season as a Tigerhawk. Her 11 walks led the SICL and she finished with a team-best 15 hits.

Freerksen added nine runs, seven RBIs, 16 total bases and four steals and her fielding percentage was .904.

Brianna Freerksen

As a pitcher, she was 1-7 with an ERA of 5.36. Her 54 strikeouts in 49 2/3 innings tied for fifth in the SICL.

Rausch batted .286 and had an OBP of .352. She led the Tigerhawks with 14 runs and tied for seventh in the SICL with 11 stolen bases.

She also tallied 14 hits, three RBIs, five walks and 15 total bases and her fielding percentage was .909.

Olivia Rausch

Allen batted .250 and had an OBP of .365. Her three doubles and 11 RBIs led C-M and she tied for fifth in the SICL with five hit by pitches.

She finished with 11 hits, 11 runs, six walks and 14 total bases and her fielding percentage was .773.
