PCM softball moves up to No. 8 after win over South Hamilton

MONROE — Rylee Parsons picked up win No. 12, Camden Webb registered her Class 3A-leading ninth save and the 3A No. 8 PCM softball team downed South Hamilton, 3-1, during Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference play on Monday.

PCM scored once in the second and regained the lead with a two-run fifth. The Mustangs out-hit the Hawks 7-4 and PCM was plagued by one error on Senior Night.

Parsons pitched five innings and allowed one earned run on four hits and one walk. She struck out seven and now has 85 strikeouts in 69 1/3 innings.

Parsons improved to 12-1, and those 12 wins rank tied for sixth in 3A. Her .167 batting average against ranks tied for seventh and her .91 earned run average is fourth.

Webb secured her school-record ninth save after tossing two innings and surrendering no runs and no hits with one strikeout.

Her nine saves leads 3A and no one else has more than three. Her ERA dropped to 1.06, which ranks fifth in 3A. Her .162 batting average against ranks sixth.

Libby Winters led the offense with two hits, one triple, one run, one RBI and one steal.

Camden Webb

Addison Steenhoek, Tori Lindsay, Lillian Humpal, Addi Hudnut and Webb all had one hit. Lindsay and Webb each doubled and had one RBI and Lindsay scored one run.

Lark Drake, the team’s lone senior, was hit by a pitch, Hadley Millang walked once and Peyton Lathrum scored one run and stole one base.

The win for PCM (18-3, 12-1 in the HOIAC) was its eighth straight over South Hamilton. The Mustangs outscored the Hawks (13-15, 5-9) 12-1 this season.
