L-S softball can’t overcome slow start in loss to HLV

Four-run seventh not enough for Hawks against rival Warriors

Alexy Conover

SULLY — A strong finish was not enough for the Lynnville-Sully softball team on Monday.

The Hawks fell behind early and never fully recovered despite scoring four runs in their last at-bat.

The Warriors took an early lead, added to the margin in the second and then held off a late flurry from their hosts during a 7-6 road win in South Iowa Cedar League play.

Peyton Sharp

HLV led 3-2 after one, 5-2 after two and added single runs in the fifth and sixth. The Hawks scored four times in the seventh, but came up one run short.

Lynnville-Sully (8-15, 5-11 in SICL) out-hit the Warriors 10-9, but the Hawks were plagued by seven errors. It was the Hawks’ fourth straight loss.

Alexy Conover led the Hawks with three hits and one RBI, while Kate Harthoorn and Peyton Sharp each had two hits. Conover leads L-S with 48 total bases this summer.
