Area Soccer: Central Iowa United girls get first win

Belmond-Klemme edges CIU boys; PCM loses to Chariton

DES MOINES — Soccer players from Colfax-Mingo had their feet on the Central Iowa United girls’ soccer win on Thursday night.

Three Tigerhawks scored a goal and senior goalie Cassidy Smith made three saves in the 4-1 triumph over Grand View Christian at Cownie Sports Complex.

It was the first win of the season for CIU, which won only one match all of last season. That also was a 4-1 margin.

C-M sophomores Brooklyn Yanske and Lilyan Hadsall each had one goal and one assist in the win, while Tigerhawk sophomore Bianca Lane and Baxter sophomore Ashlyn Finch also tallied goals.

Haylee Merryman and Paige Ward delivered the other two assists. Central Iowa United (1-3) had a 27-13 advantage in shots and a 13-3 surplus in shots on goal.

Grand View Christian (2-1) led 1-0 at halftime following a goal by Katie Murphy.

BOYS

Belmond-Klemme 4, Central Iowa United 3

BELMOND — Central Iowa United’s boys soccer team lost its second straight one-goal match on Friday.

Belmond-Klemme got three goals from Christopher Duerte and one goal and two assists from Andy Rivera during a 4-3 non-conference home win.

Central Iowa United (0-5) trailed 3-2 at halftime and both teams scored a goal in the second half. Statistics for CIU were not available at press time.

Jose Alfaro made nine saves for Belmond-Klemme, which improved to 2-1.

Chariton 3, PCM

MONROE — Christopher Enamordo scored twice, Quinten Gruwell dished out two assists and Brody Krutsinger made three saves as Chariton downed PCM, 3-1, on Thursday.

The Mustangs (1-3) led the non-conference home match 1-0 at halftime following a first-half goal by Justin Johnston, but Chariton (2-0) stayed unbeaten with a three-goal second half.

Dominic Witt had one assist and Terrell Wood made 10 saves for the Mustangs.
