WEST DES MOINES — Four Cardinals finished 2-0 and the Newton boys’ wrestling team had a winning record in contested matches during a road triangular on Thursday.
Kaiden Rogers, Wyatt Weter, Nick Milburn and Kent Montgomery all won both of their matches and the Cardinals split a pair of duals during non-conference action.
Newton downed Des Moines Lincoln 54-12 but lost to host West Des Moines Valley 45-19.
The Cardinals were 8-1 in contested matches against Lincoln and held a 3-1 advantage in forfeit wins.
Four of the eight victories came by fall from Zander Robson (126), Aiden Robson (138), Lane Rozendaal (157) and Jake Mace-Maynard (175). Rogers won his match 6-1 at 120, Keary Sanger scored a 6-4 victory at 150, Weter won 4-2 at 215 and Milburn posted a 5-1 win at 285.
The three forfeits were accepted by Hayden McCuddin (144), Montgomery (106) and Abel Aldama (113).
Newton was 5-8 in contested matches against the No. 17 Tigers. Rogers scored a 17-second pin at 120, while Weter (190) won 8-4, Milburn (215) claimed an 8-5 win, Montgomery posted a 9-1 major decision and Chevy Langston (165) delivered a 6-2 win.
