PELLA — The Newton girls’ basketball team had its second best shooting night of the season and out-rebounded Pella during their Little Hawkeye Conference matchup on Friday.
But 39 turnovers were too much to overcome as the Class 3A No. 13 Dutch started fast and settled into a 69-44 home win.
Newton trailed 24-6 after one quarter and never recovered. The two teams played even in the second and third quarters, but the Dutch extended their margin with a 20-13 fourth.
Pella defeated Newton for a 24th straight time and the Dutch are now 33-3 against Newton since the 2006-07 season.

The Cardinals (2-11, 0-9 in the LHC) shot 42.4 percent from the floor, which was their second best field-goal percentage of the season. The 44 points are the third most scored this winter, too.
Newton was 4-of-8 from 3-point range and 12-of-17 from the free-throw line. The visitors out-rebounded the Dutch 34-27.
