CHARITON — Burt Johnson, Wyatt Mathis and Kimball Elliott all won two matches during a road quadrangular on Tuesday, but the Lynnville-Sully wrestling team couldn’t overcome 25 forfeits and went just 3-9 in contested matches.
The Hawks lost 59-18 to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, 66-12 to Martensdale-St. Marys and 63-12 against host Chariton.
Mathis, Elliott and Johnson all went 2-1 with Mathis and Elliott winning twice by fall.
L-S was 1-2 in contested matches against EBF with Mathis winning by fall at 175 pounds. Tyler Routier (132) and Johnson (138) both took forfeits, but EBF accepted eight forfeits.
The Hawks were 2-3 in contested matches against Chariton. Mathis and Elliott both won by fall, but they surrendered eight forfeits.
Against Martensdale-St. Marys, the Hawks were 2-2 in contested matches but gave up nine forfeits. The wins were pins by Johnson and Elliott, who ended both of his wins in the first period.
