OSKALOOSA — Three Cardinals scored in double-figures and a strong start allowed the Newton boys’ basketball team to cruise to a 57-39 road win over Oskaloosa on Friday.
The Cardinals led by five after one quarter and dominated the second in the Little Hawkeye Conference matchup.
Newton turned the ball over only four times, shot 44 percent from the floor and made seven 3-pointers. The Indians made six 3s but committed 13 turnovers and shot only 33.3 percent from the field.
Caden Klein led the Cardinals (3-4, 2-3 in the LHC) with 16 points, four rebounds and two assists, while Caleb Mattes added 11 points, three rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Christian Lawson tallied 10 points and eight boards, Nate Lampe added eight points, four rebounds, two assists and four steals and Cade Bauer chipped in five points and two steals off the bench. Hunter Teague scored three points.
Max Roach finished with 15 points, five rebounds and seven assists and Aidan Scholes added 10 points and five boards to lead Oskaloosa.
The Cardinals made 4-of-9 from the free-throw line, while the Indians (2-8, 1-4) were 1-of-3.
