Tigerhawks down Van Meter at Trojan Duals

PLEASANTVILLE — John McGill won all six of his matches on Saturday and Cason Fitch was 5-1, but the Colfax-Mingo boys’ wrestling team struggled during the Pleasantville Trojan Duals.

The Tigerhawks’ lone win on the day came against Van Meter, but they also fared better on the mat than West Central Valley.

Colfax-Mingo edged Van Meter 42-35 after winning five contested matches and the Tigerhawks were 5-4 in contested matches against the WCV but lost a close one 36-33.

C-M opened its day with a 72-12 loss to Albia and finished with a 44-22 defeat against Panorama. In between were losses to Williamsburg (64-12) and host Pleasantville (60-24).

McGill’s 6-0 day included five pins at 165. He’s ranked No. 2 in Class 1A at the weight and is now 24-1 on the season.

The Tigerhawks were 5-3 in contested matches against Van Meter. They won the dual despite having a 3-2 disadvantage in forfeits.

Davion Long (157), McGill (165), Isaiah Baucom (175), Jermaine Cross (285) and Fitch (120) all secured wins by fall, while Allan Bregar (190) and James Cherveny (132) both won by forfeit.

The Tigerhawks lost 36-33 to West Central Valley in Round 3. C-M was 5-4 in contested matches but lost by three after allowing one more forfeit than the Wildcats.

Cherveny, McGill, Konner Bennett (190) and Fitch (126) all won by fall, while Baucom won 6-2 and Cross took a forfeit.

In the loss to Albia, Fitch and McGill both scored first-period pins. The Blue Demons had an 8-2 advantage in contested wins and a 4-0 surplus in forfeits.

Williamsburg was 7-3 in contested matches and took all four forfeits. McGill won by fall, while Bregar won 8-3 and Baucom scored an 8-3 victory.

In the loss to Pleasantville, McGill, Bregar and Fitch all took forfeits and Baucom won by pin in 45 seconds. The host Trojans were 6-1 in contested matches and held a 4-3 advantage in forfeits.

McGill and Cherveny both registered pins against Panorama, while Bennett accepted a forfeit and Fitch (120) won his match 10-0.

The Panthers were 6-3 in contested matches and held a 2-1 surplus in forfeits.

Colfax-Mingo ended its day 19-34 in contested matches and the Tigerhawks surrendered 19 forfeits.

Fitch was 5-1 for the day with three pins, while Baucom had four wins and Bregar and Cherveny secured three wins.

McGill, Fitch lead C-M wrestlers to SICL split

COLFAX — The Tigerhawks had an advantage in contested wins, registered seven pins and took four forfeits during a South Iowa Cedar League split on Tuesday.

The Colfax-Mingo wrestling dominated Sigourney/Keota on the mat and cruised to a 45-24 win on the scoreboard, but the Tigerhawks had disadvantages in forfeits and contested wins during a 48-28 loss to English Valleys/Tri-County.

McGill and Fitch both finished 2-0 with two pins to lead the way, while Teagan Dybevik was 2-0 and Long accepted a pair of forfeits.

The Tigerhawks were 6-2 in contested matches against Sigourney/Keota. Both teams took two forfeits and there were two double forfeits.

All five pins by C-M came in the first period and they were collected by Fitch (126), McGill (165), Bennett (190), Donnie Baucom (215) and Dybevik (285). Kyle Wood won his match 9-7 at 144 pounds and Cherveny (132) and Long (157) won by forfeit.

EVTC had a 4-2 advantage in forfeits and won four of the seven matches against the Tigerhawks. There was one double forfeit.

McGill bumped up to 175 and scored another first-period pin, Fitch (120) also won by fall and Isaiah Baucom (190) won by 17-5 major decision. Long (165) and Dybevik took the forfeits.

McGill, who is ranked No. 2 in Class 1A at 165, has won 13 straight matches and is now 18-1. Fitch improved to 17-2, Dybevik is 12-5 and Donnie Baucom is 12-6.
