COLFAX — A career night for Harrison Rhone and a season-high for points led the Colfax-Mingo boys’ basketball team to a home win over English Valleys on Friday night.
The Tigerhawks jumped out to a lead in the first quarter and dominated the Bears the rest of the way during an 85-31 victory in South Iowa Cedar League play.
Colfax-Mingo won the second quarter 23-8, outscored English Valleys 29-7 in the third and had a 17-8 surplus in the fourth.
Rhone tied a school record with 42 points and added rebounds, three assists and six steals. He was 7-of-10 from 3-point range and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Jared Lewis added a career-best 17 points and chipped in three rebounds and two assists.
Cael Bracewell finished with eight points, two rebounds, five assists and five steals, Elias Hostetter registered four points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals and Brandon Kite tallied five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Kaden Dalton chipped in seven points and three rebounds, Konner Dalton dished out three assists, Isaiah Baucom grabbed two boards and Austin Lane swiped two steals.
Colfax-Mingo (4-3, 3-3 in the SICL) shot 49 percent from the floor, made 11-of-24 from 3 and buried 10-of-15 from the free-throw line. The Tigerhawks, who snapped a three-game losing skid, swiped 23 steals in the win and delivered 23 assists on 32 field goals.
The 86 points scored were a season high and the 31 points allowed were a season low.
English Valleys dropped to 1-8 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
North Mahaska 63, Colfax-Mingo 30
COLFAX — A slow start and a tough shooting night plagued the Tigerhawks during a home loss to North Mahaska on Tuesday.
Colfax-Mingo fell behind early and never recovered during a 63-30 loss to the Warhawks in SICL play.
Rhone scored 11 points and grabbed four boards to lead the Tigerhawks, while Kite grabbed 11 rebounds and swiped three steals and Hostetter scored six points and pulled down four boards.
Bracewell tallied four points and three rebounds, Konner Dalton scored three points and pulled down two boards and Lewis grabbed three rebounds.
Colfax-Mingo shot 23.4 percent from the floor, made 2-of-15 from 3 and connected on 6-of-9 from the foul line. It turned the ball over 21 times.
Gabe Hora scored a game-high 20 points, while Nolan Anderson led the Warhawks (5-3, 4-2) with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Brayden Veiseth grabbed seven rebounds and dished out eight assists.
North Mahaska shot 41.5 percent from the floor, made 9-of-29 from 3 and missed its only two free throw attempts. The Warhawks also turned the ball over 21 times.
Montezuma 70, Colfax-Mingo 44
MONTEZUMA — Montezuma jumped out to an early lead against Colfax-Mingo and never looked back during a 70-44 home win in SICL play on Dec. 8.
The Tigerhawks shot just 30.5 percent from the floor and connected on only 4-of-20 from 3-point range. Montezuma countered with seven made 3s and it shot 58 percent from the floor.
Rhone led Colfax-Mingo with 14 points, four rebounds and eight steals and Lewis tallied nine points and two boards.
Bracewell registered eight points and three rebounds, Konner Dalton added eight points and three assists and Kite contributed four points and eight boards.
Hostetter grabbed four rebounds, swiped two steals and blocked two shots.
Colfax-Mingo was 4-of-5 from the foul line and turned the ball over just 12 times.
Montezuma (5-1, 4-1) was 7-of-19 from 3 and 5-of-6 from the foul line. The Braves turned the ball over 20 times but out-rebounded their visitors 29-22.
Brady Boulton led all scorers with 23 points, Max Anderson had 12 points and six boards, Garrett Watts chipped in 12 points and four boards and Alex Black pulled down nine rebounds.
