COLFAX — On the mat, Colfax-Mingo’s boys wrestling team fared pretty well during its home dual tournament on Saturday.

Unfortunately, 19 forfeits over the course of five duals hindered the Tigerhawks’ final result and Colfax-Mingo registered just one dual victory during its annual home tournament that took place inside the new facility for the first time.

Colfax-Mingo’s lone win was a 33-24 triumph over Des Moines North-Hoover, but the Tigerhawks lost to Burlington Notre Dame (54-30), Sioux Central (39-30), Hudson (65-18) and Columbus Community (60-16). The home team placed fifth overall.

The Tigerhawks were 18-22 in contested matches with John McGill going 5-0 at 165 pounds and Cason Fitch, Isaiah Baucom and Donnie Baucom all finishing 4-1.

The Tigerhawks were 4-4 in contested matches against Sioux Central and there were two double forfeits. The nine-point difference came in part because C-M had a 3-1 disadvantage in forfeits.

Fitch (120), Isaiah Baucom, Konner Bennett (190) and Donnie Baucom all won by fall and McGill took the lone forfeit.

Hudson was 6-2 in contested matches against C-M and the Pirates held a 5-1 advantage in forfeits. Fitch and Dybevik both won by fall and McGill took another forfeit. It was the only forfeit Hudson gave up at 165 all day.

The Tigerhawks were 4-5 in contested matches against Columbus. Donnie Baucom won by fall in the first period, McGill scored a 14-4 win by major decision and Isaiah Baucom and Fitch won their matches by decision.

McGill, who is ranked No. 2 in 1A at 165, is now 16-1 this season with seven pins and three major decisions. Fitch is 15-2 with nine pins, Donnie Baucom improved to 11-4 and Dybevik moved to 10-5.
