Baxter girls fall twice in Iowa Star South play

Bolts drop pair of conference games to Collins-Maxwell, BCLUW

BAXTER — Emie Tuhn’s double-double was not enough for the Baxter girls’ basketball team on Tuesday.

The Bolts dropped their second straight Iowa Star Conference South Division game as they lost at home to BCLUW, 54-34.

Baxter turned the ball over 19 times, was out-rebounded 56-29 and shot only 25.5 percent from the floor in the loss.

Tuhn led the Bolts with 13 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals and Karlee Koehler added eight points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Avery Wonders chipped in four points and nine rebounds, Kendall Brummel tallied four rebounds and two assists, Hannah Huffaker registered three points and two boards and Maddie Reimers scored four points.

The Bolts (1-2, 1-2 in the conference) made 6-of-32 from 3-point range and connected on 2-of-5 from the free-throw line.

Grace Farnsworth led BCLUW with 23 points and 17 rebounds and Savannah Moeller added 22 points and 16 rebounds.

The Comets (3-2, 2-1) shot 30 percent from the floor, made 1-of-16 from 3 and sunk 9-of-20 from the foul line. They turned the ball over 15 times.

Collins-Maxwell 46, Baxter 21

MAXWELL — The Bolts struggled in the second and fourth quarters against rival Collins-Maxwell on Dec. 1.

Baxter trailed by one after one, but the Spartans pulled away for good with a big advantage in the second during a 46-21 home win in Iowa Star Conference South Division play.

The Bolts turned the ball over 19 times, shot 21 percent from the floor, made 3-of-27 from 3 and did not attempt a free throw in the loss.

The Spartans made 10 free throws, turned the ball over only nine times and out-rebounded their visitors 39-26.

Leading 7-6 after one, Collins-Maxwell (4-2, 2-0) outscored the Bolts 16-3 in the second and 16-5 in the fourth during the victory. The Spartans won the third 8-6.

Tuhn led the Bolts with six points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals and Koehler chipped in seven points, three rebounds and three steals.

Huffaker tallied four points and three rebounds, Brummel grabbed six boards and Reimers corralled four rebounds. Wonders had two rebounds and two assists.

The Spartans shot 31 percent from the floor and made 2-of-24 from 3.

Erica Houge led Collins-Maxwell with 13 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and five steals and Chloe Wierson posted a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double.
