Third-ranked ACGC runs past Lynnville-Sully

No. 10 Hawks can’t get off the ground in season-ending loss

GUTHRIE CENTER — Lynnville-Sully’s quest for a second straight semifinal appearance ended on Friday night.

The Class A No. 10 Hawks were limited to 118 total yards and eight first downs during a 29-8 loss to third-ranked ACGC.

The host Chargers won the playoff football game after rushing for 360 yards and holding the Hawks to a season-low in points.

ACGC led 7-0 at halftime and outscored the Hawks 22-8 in the second half. The Chargers scored 29 unanswered points before the Hawks got on the board in the final minute of the game.

Lucas Sieck returned to the Hawks’ lineup and threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Dawson James with 49 seconds to go in the game.

CJ Nikkel, who ran in the two-point conversion, led the Hawks with 31 rushing yards on eight carries and eight tackles on defense.

Sieck was 7-of-22 through the air for 81 yards, one touchdown and one pick and he ran for 15 yards on four carries.

The Chargers had a 19-8 advantage in first downs. L-S (8-2) gained 37 yards on 14 carries and added 81 yards through the air.

James had two catches for 36 yards and a TD on offense and nine tackles on defense. Lannnon Montgomery grabbed four passes for 33 yards.

Jack Bowlin caught a 12-yard pass and registered five tackles and one interception on defense.

Wyatt Mathis tallied a career-high 11 tackles and two tackles for loss to lead the Hawks’ defense. Klayton Van Dyke and Terran Gosselink each had five tackles and Montgomery, Keegan DeWitt and Davis Utech each secured three tackles.

ACGC (10-0) was led by Mike Fuller, who ran for 160 yards and two TDs on 25 carries. He had a 38-yard TD run in the third and added a short scoring run in the fourth.

Anthony Solorzano gained 110 yards on 17 carries and Jathan South added 60 yards and two scores on 12 carries.

Tegan Slaybaugh posted six tackles and Solorzano snagged an interception to lead the Chargers’ defense.
