WAVERLY — Matt Richardson set a new school record, Max Handorf and Zoey Gliem joined him as all-conference finishers and the Baxter boys’ cross country team led the Bolts at the Iowa Star Conference meet on Tuesday.
Baxter’s boys finished second in the team standings after all five scoring runners ended up in the top 30.
Baxter’s girls did not have enough runners for a team score. Collins-Maxwell swept the team races.
The meet took place at Wartburg College and was moved up from Thursday to Tuesday due to weather concerns.
Richardson and Handorf led the Baxter boys with a 1-3 finish. The Bolts scored 53 points in second and trailed Collins-Maxwell (46) by seven points at the top.
Valley Lutheran (71), Waterloo Christian (79), BCLUW (155), Colo-NESCO (158), Meskwaki Settlement School (170) and Janesville (188) completed the eight-team field.
Class 1A No. 10 Collins-Maxwell won the girls’ team race with 25 points, while North Tama finished second with 47, BCLUW was third with 52 and Waterloo Christian (95) completed the four-team field.
Richardson won the boys’ 5K race in a school-record time of 16 minutes, 40 seconds.
Handorf placed third in 17:34 and Logan Jones was 13th in 19:00. The other two scoring runners were Maddox Peters (19:49) in 24th and Logan Rainsbarger (20:05) in 26th.
Hudson Bethards (25:49) and Austin England (26:09) were non-scoring runners in 61st and 63rd, respectively.
Dunkerton’s Abbi Waskow won the girls’ race in 19:33 and Riceville’s Claire Zweibohmer was the runner-up in 19:48.
Gliem’s all-conference finish of eighth was clocked in 21:42. Regan Russell (24:27) finished 23rd, Emie Tuhn (26:22) was 34th and Lauren McKibbin (29:28) placed 43rd.
