Schroeder, Wilkins lead C-M harriers at Montezuma

Tigerhawks face several SICL rivals at Big Springs Shooting Complex

MONTEZUMA — Addie Schroeder and Shae Wilkins scored top-10 finishes to lead the Colfax-Mingo cross country teams on Thursday during the Montezuma Invitational at Big Springs Shooting Complex.

The Tigerhawks wound up fourth in the girls’ standings, while the boys did not have enough runners for a team score.

Colfax-Mingo scored 65 points in fourth. English Valleys won the girls’ team title with 26 points after placing three in the top four and five in the first 16 positions.

South Tama County (59) and Montezuma (62) completed the four-team field.

Schroeder led the way in eighth with a time of 22 minutes, 48.4 seconds. Wilkins finished 10th in 23:34.5.

Rachael Uecker (26:27), Mallory Sipma (26:28.8) and Devan Chadwick (26:45.5) were the other scoring runners in 23rd, 24th and 25th, respectively.

Lilyan Hadsall (28:18.6), Bianca Lane (29:27.4), Shy Steck (29:31.7) and Dove Lopez (44:09.5) were non-scoring runners in 35th, 36th, 37th and 42nd, respectively.

North Mahaska’s Emmerson Jedlicka won the girls’ 5K race in 20:49.5. Addison Achenbach of English Valleys was the runner-up in 21:27.6.

Class 1A No. 24 Gage Heyne of English Valleys won the boys’ 5K race in 17:19.5. North Mahaska’s Brayden Veiseth was the runner-up in 17:38.6.

Class 3A No. 11 South Tama County won the boys’ team title with 34 points despite not having at least its top two varsity runners.

North Mahaska (64), HLV (72), Montezuma (93), Belle Plaine (110) and Moravia (132) completed the six-team field.

Colfax-Mingo was led by Owen Ament, who finished 27th in 20:45.4. John McGill (21:23.9), Austin Lane (22:08.8) and Sullivan Wilkins (22:25.4) finished 33rd, 41st and 43rd, respectively.
