PLEASANTVILLE — A 5-0 day at the Pleasantville tournament allowed the PCM volleyball team to bring home a championship trophy on Saturday.
The Mustangs won all five matches in straight sets and now have more wins this season than they’ve had in nearly two decades.
“It was a fun day and the success was so nice for our seniors’ last tournament together,” PCM head volleyball coach Sarah De Vries said. “The girls had such great teamwork and communication on the court, which kept us going even if we were down a few points.”

PCM faced Jasper County rival Colfax-Mingo and downed the Tigerhawks 21-12, 22-20.
The Mustangs also swept Southeast Warren 22-20, 21-17, defeated Martensdale-St. Marys 21-19, 21-5, took care of Saydel 21-6, 21-9 and edged host Pleasantville 21-19, 22-20.
The Tigerhawks also had a winning day, finishing 3-2 with wins over Saydel, Southeast Warren and Martensdale-St. Marys. Pleasantville was C-M’s other loss.
All three of Colfax-Mingo’s wins came in three sets. The Tigerhawks downed Saydel 13-21, 21-2, 15-6, posted a 17-21, 21-13, 15-11 win over Martensdale-St. Marys and defeated Southeast Warren 21-13, 19-21, 15-11. Pleasantville defeated Colfax-Mingo 21-17, 21-15.
The Mustangs have won six straight matches and are now 16-11. That’s the most wins in a season since they posted 20 victories in 2007-08.
Eliana Buswell had 15 assists, three digs and three aces in the Mustangs’ win over Colfax-Mingo. Tori Lindsay added seven kills, four digs and two aces and Rebecca De Vries chipped in eight kills and three digs.

De Vries posted a kill efficiency of .467 and Lindsay’s was .462. Addison Steenhoek and Lark Drake each had six digs, Ella Schendel claimed five digs, Addyson Hegwood chipped in two digs and Reese Palm and Rylie Muck each put down two kills.
The Mustangs were 36-of-42 in serves with seven aces. The Tigerhawks (7-12) served 27-of-33.
Trinity Smith led C-M with nine kills and six digs. Addie Schroeder tallied three kills and five digs, Charlotte Donahue chipped in eight digs and Madison Stackhouse dished out 10 assists.
Smith’s kill efficiency was .375. Britney Keeney had three blocks and Macie Porter collected three digs.
In PCM’s win over Saydel (0-15), Buswell led the way with 10 assists, five aces and three digs. Steenhoek had 12 digs, two assists and two aces and Lindsay tallied two kills and two aces.
Rebecca De Vries, Elle Davis and Palm all put down four kills, Morgan Karr collected two kills and Addyson Hegwood posted three digs.
PCM was 38-of-41 in serves with 10 aces. Davis’ kill efficiency was .667 and Palm’s was .375.

De Vries sent down seven kills, Lindsay added four kills and four digs and Palm chipped in six kills and three digs in the win over Southeast Warren.
Steenhoek registered eight digs, Hegwood collected four digs and two aces and Schendel and Muck each had three digs.
The Mustangs were 37-of-41 in serves with eight aces. Drake served up three aces.
Lexi Clendenen led Southeast Warren (8-22) with 12 kills and seven digs. The Warhawks were 32-of-36 in serves.
After PCM edged Martensdale-St. Marys (3-15) in the first set, Schendel began the second with 15 straight serves and nine aces. That set the tone and the Mustangs cruised from there.
Buswell finished with nine assists, two kills and two digs, Lindsay added two kills, two assists and three digs and De Vries tallied four kills and three aces.
Davis put down five kills and had a .625 kill efficiency, Steenhoek and Muck each had two kills, Drake tallied three digs and Schendel collected two digs and nine aces.

The Mustangs were 31-of-41 in serves with 13 aces.
In the narrow win over Pleasantville (24-9), Buswell finished with 13 assists, two kills, five digs and two aces and De Vries tallied six kills and two blocks with a kill efficiency of .556.
Lindsay chipped in five kills, four digs and two assists, Hegwood posted 10 digs, Davis put down three kills and Steenhoek registered three digs.
PCM was 36-of-42 in serves with five aces.
“We had some ups and downs throughout the day, which made some sets easier to win than others,” Coach De Vries said. “Our passing and serve receive were spot on and that allowed us to be very effective at the net.”
Smith led Colfax-Mingo in its win against Saydel with seven kills, three digs and two aces and Stackhouse tallied 10 assists, two kills and two digs.
Donahue added seven digs and two aces and Schroeder finished with six digs and five aces. The Tigerhawks were 44-of-49 in serves with 11 aces.

Colfax-Mingo needed another rally against Martensdale-St. Marys and Stackhouse led the way with 25 assists, six digs and three aces.
Smith tallied 22 kills and four digs, Donahue chipped in eight digs, Schroeder finished with four digs and five aces and Katelyn Steenhoek and Keeney each tallied two kills.
Smith’s kill efficiency was .385 and the Mustangs finished 50-of-53 with 10 aces.
Stackhouse led the Tigerhawks against Southeast Warren with 21 assists, two kills, two blocks and five digs.
Smith tallied 13 kills, seven digs and two aces and her kill efficiency was .257.
Schroeder added 14 digs, four kills and two aces, Donahue had 10 digs, Keeney finished with three kills and four blocks and Porter added three digs.

Katelyn Steenhoek also contributed two kills and C-M was 48-of-54 with five aces.
Clendenen led Southeast Warren with 11 kills and 16 digs.
In the Tigerhawks’ loss to Pleasantville, Smith had three kills, three digs and two assists and Stackhouse tallied seven assists and three kills.
Schroeder finished with two kills and three digs, Donahue had four digs and Keeney put down three kills. C-M was 30-of-33 in serves with two aces.
