Baxter boys finish sixth at Nevada Cub Invitational

Gliem leads Bolt girls at Indian Creek Country Club

NEVADA — State-ranked Matt Richardson and freshman Max Handorf both were in the top 15 of a very tough field at the Nevada Cub Invitational on Monday.

The Bolts competed in a cross country meet that featured multiple ranked teams and plenty of ranked runners at Indian Creek Country Club.

Baxter’s boys were sixth in the 12-team field. The girls’ team did not have enough runners for a team score, but Zoey Gliem led the way again.

Richardson, who is ranked 24th in Class 1A, finished 11th in 17 minutes, 39 seconds and Handorf was 13th in 17:48.

The Bolts had only five runners in the lineup and the other three scorers were Maddox Peters (20:07) in 44th, Logan Rainsbarger (21:02) in 54th and Logan Jones (21:09) in 55th.

Class 1A No. 6 Emerson Vokes of Grundy Center won the boys’ 5K race in 16:28. Class 3A No. 11 Jacob Tallman of Gilbert was the runner-up in 16:42.

Class 3A No. 1 Gilbert won the boys’ team title with 27 points. The Tigers put its five scoring runners in the top 10.

The rest of the top five featured 3A No. 18 North Polk (84), 3A No. 17 Nevada (87), 1A No. 18 Grundy Center (91) and East Marshall (150).

Baxter (175), Roland-Story (204), West Marshall (206), South Hamilton (219), South Hardin (271), BCLUW (290) and Iowa Falls-Alden (305) completed the 12-team field.

Gliem was the top Baxter girl in 25th. She was clocked in 22:58. Regan Russell (28:09) finished 63rd and Lauren McKibbin (31:03) took 73rd.

Class 3A No. 17 Emee Dani of Gilbert won the girls’ race in 20:13 and her teammate, Keira Andersen, was the runner-up in 20:15.

Class 3A No. 2 Gilbert won the team title with 15 points. The Tigers placed its five scoring runners in the top six positions.

North Polk (85), Iowa Falls-Alden (91), Grundy Center (95), Nevada (100), West Marshall (179), BCLUW (185) and South Hamilton (195) finalized the eight-team field.
