Baxter football stays unbeaten, rallies past CR-B

Bolts improve to 2-0 after come-from-behind win

BAXTER — A career night from quarterback Perrin Sulzle and another big game from wideout Treyton Travis guided the Baxter football team to a come-from-behind win over Coon Rapids-Bayard on Friday night.

The Bolts trailed 7-0 after one quarter and fell behind 15-6 at halftime, but a second-half rally pushed Baxter past the Crusaders 28-21 in its home opener.

Sulzle threw for a career-high 341 yards and tied a career-best with four touchdown passes. He was 26-of-44 through the air and gained a career-best 80 rushing yards on 20 carries. He also threw one pick.

Travis hauled in 11 catches for 206 yards and three scores and Cainan Travis tallied 24 rushing yards and gained 68 yards and scored one TD on five catches.

Cade Robinson had eight catches for 64 yards and added 12 yards on the ground.

Baxter (2-0) led 22-21 after three before outscoring CR-B 6-0 in the fourth.

Cody Samson led the Bolts’ defense with 12 tackles and two fumble recoveries and Treyton Travis added 9.5 tackles and one interception.

Cael Wishman finished with 5.5 tackles, one sack, three tackles for loss and one fumble recovery and Cainan Travis chipped in six tackles.

Jack Anderson registered three tackles and one sack, Aiden McFadden and Eli Dee had 3.5 tackles and McFadden and Stadan Vansice each recovered a fumble.

Through two games, Sulzle leads Class 8-man with 633 passing yards and 45 completions. He’s tied for third with eight TD passes.

Treyton Travis’ 452 receiving yards leads 8-man and he’s tied for the lead with seven TDs. His 24 catches rank second.

The win for Baxter was the first against Coon Rapids-Bayard in three tries.

Wyatt Oswald led the Crusaders (1-1) with 66 passing yards, 95 rushing yards and 14 tackles, one sack and one fumble recovery.

Cal Heydon gained 43 receiving yards on six catches and added 9.5 tackles, one fumble recovery and a 78-yard pick-six on defense.
