DES MOINES — Rebecca De Vries had a career night at the net and PCM’s volleyball team served up 18 aces during its straight-set win over Des Moines North on Monday.
Seven Mustangs registered at least two kills and De Vries’ career-best 18 kills led PCM to a 25-13, 25-9, 25-10 non-conference victory.
“We passed the ball very well and were able to run a great offense and you can see that by the number of kills we had with few hitting errors,” PCM head volleyball coach Sarah De Vries said. “It was good to play a game that we felt in control of and also never let up on the intensity.”
The Mustangs evened their record at 6-6 thanks in part to 18 aces. PCM was 70-of-77 in serves and Eliana Buswell finished with seven aces to lead the way.
De Vries served three aces and had two blocks to go with her 14 kills. Buswell finished with 26 assists, two kills and three digs on top of her seven aces.
Tori Lindsay chipped in five kills, five digs and two assists, Rylie Muck added three assists, two kills, two blocks and two aces and Reese Palm had four kills, five digs and two aces.
Addison Steenhoek registered 14 digs, three aces and two kills, Elle Davis put down five kills and Ella Schendel also had five digs. Lark Drake chipped in three digs.
The Mustangs improved to 7-0 all-time against North (0-2) and they’ve claimed six consecutive sweeps.
“We stayed up against North pretty easily, so we were able to focus a lot on our offense,” Coach De Vries said. “Several players had a run of serves and we worked on being aggressive with that.”
