CORYDON — The Colfax-Mingo football team got off to a slow start and then was shut out in the second half during a 42-8 loss to Wayne in the season opener on Friday.
The Tigerhawks trailed 12-0 after one quarter and were outscored 16-0 in the second half.
Cael Bracewell hooked up with Konner Dalton for a 17-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and Bracewell added a two-point conversion run for the team’s only points of the game.
It was the first career varsity touchdown for Dalton.
Bracewell finished with 129 passing yards, 33 rushing yards and one touchdown pass for the Tigerhawks (0-1) in the loss. He also threw one interception and added six tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss on defense.
Conner Wood finished with two catches for 31 yards and 5.5 tackles, Logan Exley added two catches for 29 yards and five tackles and Xavier Woods chipped in one catch for 26 yards and three tackles.
Shane Hostetter hauled in three catches for 17 yards, Dalton’s lone catch was the 17-yard touchdown and Isaiah Baucom grabbed one pass for nine yards.
Baucom also registered a team-best 6.5 tackles, while Hostetter, Donnie Baucom and Jacob Riddle all had four tackles. Dalton collected three tackles.
Boudyn White led Wayne (1-0) with 116 passing yards and two scores and 98 rushing yards and two more TDs.
Fischer Buckingham rushed for 161 yards and two scores and led the Falcons defense with six tackles.
Wayne rushed for 267 yards on 37 carries in the non-district game.
