The Baxter baseball team set a program record for wins this summer. And the eight conference victories also were the most in Bolts’ history.
For their efforts, six players earned all-conference recognition in the Iowa Star Conference South Division.
Leading the way were seniors Cody Damman and Cael Shepley, who both earned first-team honors. Senior Jake Travis and freshmen Cael Wishman and Colton Moffit were second-team picks and junior Ben Richardson was an honorable mention selection.
All-conference recognition is based on statistics inside conference play only.
Damman made the first team as a catcher. He ranked sixth in the South Division with a .400 batting average and was eighth with an on-base percentage of .508.
He ranked tied for fifth with 17 runs, was fifth with 26 total bases and 13 steals, tied for sixth with four hit by pitches, tied for eighth with four doubles and finished with one triple, 10 RBIs, eight walks and two errors.
Damman’s .976 fielding percentage ranked tied for sixth and he threw out five runners attempting to steal a base.
Shepley’s first-team nod came as a utility player. He batted .319 and had a .467 OBP. His 13 walks and 14 steals tied for second in the division, he ranked tied for fifth with 17 runs, tied for eighth with four doubles and tied for 10th with 19 total bases. He also finished with nine RBIs and ranked 10th with a fielding percentage of .971.
As a pitcher, Shepley ranked second with 45 strikeouts and 37 2/3 innings. His 2.79 earned run average ranked ninth and his three pitching wins tied for sixth.
Moffit was a second-team pitcher. He was 4-0 and led the division with a 1.48 ERA. He struck out 22 batters in 23 2/3 innings and ranked 10th in the league with a .215 opponents’ batting average. His four pitching wins ranked tied for third in the division.
Travis was a second-team infielder after ranking seventh in the league with a .510 OBP. He also tied for the division lead with 10 hit by pitches and ranked ninth with 12 RBIs.
He tied eighth with four doubles and tied for 10th with nine steals and finished with eight runs, five walks, one homer and 17 total bases. He batted .303.
Wishman was a second-team outfielder after ranking fourth in the league with a .538 OBP. His .385 batting average ranked seventh and his 13 RBIs tied for seventh.
He also ranked tied for ninth with 10 walks, was tied for 10th with nine steals and finished with 12 runs, three doubles, three hit by pitches and 18 total bases. His fielding percentage was .941.
Richardson batted .341 and ranked ninth in the league with a .500 OBP. His 12 walks ranked fifth in the division and he registered 13 runs, three RBIs, one hit by pitch, 14 total bases and seven steals. His fielding percentage was .929.
