NEWTON — Victory laps are pretty common in racing, but Iowa Speedway will host a unique version during the upcoming Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend.
Building on the tradition of the motorsports post-race celebration, the Kansas City Chiefs will be taking a Super Bowl victory lap throughout the Midwest this summer, including a stop in Newton on July 23 for the final day of Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend.
The “Chiefs Champions Tour” will be featured on the Iowa Speedway concourse, overlooking Turn 1, and fans are welcome to visit the tour on Sunday and celebrate “Chiefs Kingdom” with the reigning National Football League (NFL) champions.
As part of a four-month-long journey across the Midwest, the Chiefs Champions Tour honors the team’s Super Bowl victory and gives fans a chance to experience the road to the championship.
Much like the championship teams in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES which will compete in the only doubleheader race weekend of the season during Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend, the Chiefs display at Iowa Speedway will honor the unity and teamwork the team showed in winning the title this year in pro football’s biggest game.
Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend fans will be able to see and take pictures with the iconic Lombardi Trophy, awarded to the Super Bowl winning team and named in honor of legendary NFL head coach Vince Lombardi.
The Chiefs Champions Tour also will feature the “Kingdom Cruiser” bus, appearances by the Chiefs Cheerleaders and the Chiefs Rumble drumline, along with the team’s popular mascot – KC Wolf.
The 2023 Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend includes world-class racing at the “Fastest Short Track on the Planet” with the NTT INDYCAR SERIES competing in the Hy-Vee Homefront 250 presented by Instacart on July 22 followed by the Hy-Vee One Step 250 presented by Gatorade on July 23.
The rising stars of racing also will compete at Iowa Speedway with INDY NXT by Firestone racing on Saturday. The event will once again feature an amazing music lineup with country music superstar Carrie Underwood performing live before Saturday’s INDYCAR race and Kenny Chesney live in concert after the race, followed by Zak Brown Band in concert before Sunday’s INDYCAR race and pop music superstar Ed Sheeran hosting a post-race performance on Sunday. All concerts are included with the price of a ticket.
