Baxter softball can’t find win column against Janesville, Ogden

Bolts end regular season with mercy-rule losses

JANESVILLE — The Baxter softball team had just as many hits as Janesville on Monday, but the Bolts committed nine errors and the Wildcats cruised to a 12-1, five-inning win.

Lydia Pierce, Kendall Brummel and Caydene Sulzle combined for six of the team’s eight hits.

They had two hits each and Pierce scored one run, Hannah Huffaker and Morgan Hansen tallied one hit each and Evelyn Boothroyd walked twice. Emie Tuhn drew one walk.

Holly Zahurones took the loss in the circle after allowing nine runs — seven earned — on six hits, three walks and two hit batters in two innings. She struck out two.

Avery Wonders pitched two innings and surrendered three earned runs on three hits and one walk and she struck out two.

Janesville led the Iowa Star Conference game 2-0 after one and plated seven in the second and three in the third to end things early.

Baxter (1-20 overall, 1-15 in the conference) scored its lone run in the fifth frame.

Kike Smith led Janesville (7-15, 4-10) with two hits, three runs, one walk and three steals. Hayden Pugh added two hits, three runs and one walk and the Wildcats stole eight bases.

Zoey Barnes spun all five innings for Janesville, got the win and allowed no earned runs and struck out seven.

Ogden 11, Baxter 1, five innings

OGDEN — The Bulldogs scored all 11 of its runs in the first three frames during its 11-1 win over Baxter on Wednesday. Ogden led 4-0 after one, 6-0 after two and 11-0 after three.

Camryn Askelsen homered, had two hits and tallied four RBIs and Jordyn Crosman scored three runs and stole three bases.

Ogden (12-20) stole seven bases, walked three times and was hit by three pitches. The Bulldogs out-hit the Bolts 8-1.

Kathleen Wilcoxson allowed one earned run on one hit and four walks in five innings. She struck out five.
