L-S softball edges BGM, earns season split of Bears

Conover leads Hawks to South Iowa Cedar League victory

SULLY — A big night at the plate and in the circle from Alexy Conover led the Lynnville-Sully softball team to a home win over BGM on Monday.

Conover laced two doubles at the dish and struck out five batters during the Hawks’ 4-3 victory in South Iowa Cedar League action.

Lynnville-Sully won the game in walk-off fashion following a run in the bottom of the seventh.

The Hawks took a 2-1 lead with a two-run third inning and then went up 3-1 in the fifth. BGM tied the game with a pair of runs in the sixth, but L-S won the back-and-forth game with a run in the seventh.

BGM out-hit the Hawks 6-5, but L-S took advantage of six Bear errors.

Conover finished with three hits and one RBI, Makayla Tice had two hits, one RBI and one steal and Greenlee Smock walked once and stole two bases.

Alaina Roberts drew one walk, Addison Collum scored three runs and Abby Squires scored one run.

Conover (6-11) spun seven innings in the circle and allowed three runs — one earned — on four hits and two walks. She struck out five.

Ava Sacora led BGM (12-9 overall, 7-7 in the conference) with two hits and one walk and Laila Morrison surrendered one earned run on five hits in 6 1/3 innings.

The win helped the Hawks (6-14, 6-6) earn the season split against BGM. The Bears defeated L-S, 13-11, back on May 24.
