C-M softball blasts Iowa Valley, falls to Tri-County

Slow start plagues Tigerhawks in loss to Grand View Christian

MARENGO — Seven Tigerhawks had at least two hits and the Colfax-Mingo softball team scored 12 runs in the sixth inning and pulled away from Iowa Valley on Wednesday.

Colfax-Mingo and the host Tigers were tied at 2-all after two innings, but the visitors scored three in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and 12 in the sixth to win 20-2 during South Iowa Cedar League play.

The Tigerhawks out-hit the Tigers 22-6 and they committed zero errors.

Charlotte Donahue led Colfax-Mingo with four hits and Carley Underwood, Caylee Cunningham, Holland Robinette and Dakota Allen all collected three hits.

Donahue chipped in three runs and one RBI, Underwood added two triples, two runs, four RBIs and one steal and Cunningham doubled, tripled, scored three runs, had two RBIs and stole one base.

Underwood leads the Tigerhawks (10-8 overall, 7-5 in the conference) with 26 runs and 16 steals and Cunningham has a team-most 49 total bases, 10 doubles and three triples.

Robinette doubled, scored three runs and had two RBIs, Allen scored three runs and collected two RBIs and Olivia Rausch and Abi Rawlins both had two hits.

Robinette’s batting average is a team-best .438 and she has a team-high 19 RBIs.

Rausch doubled, scored two runs and had two RBIs and Rawlins chipped in two runs, two RBIs, one walk and one steal.

Madison Stackhouse tallied one hit, one run, one RBI and one walk and Trinity Smith registered one hit, one run and two RBIs.

Rawlins (6-5) earned the win in the circle after allowing two runs — one earned — on six hits. She struck out two, walked one and hit one batter in six innings.

Iowa Valley fell to 9-10 overall and 6-6 in the SICL.

Tri-County 5, Colfax-Mingo 2

COLFAX — The Tigerhawks lost an early lead, pulled even midway through the game but ultimately lost to Tri-County 5-2 after the Trojans plated three runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Colfax-Mingo scored one run in the second and one more in the fourth, but Tri-County took advantage of three Tigerhawk errors during the SICL matchup on Monday.

Colfax-Mingo was out-hit 6-5. The hits came from Donahue, Rawlins, Robinette, Smith and Allen.

Rawlins added one run, one walk and one steal, Robinette walked twice and scored one run, Smith walked once and Allen had one RBI.

Rausch drew two walks and stole one base and Stackhouse registered one RBI.

Rawlins took the loss in the circle after allowing five runs — one earned — on five hits in seven innings. She struck out three and walked two.

Peyton Icenbice led Tri-County (7-7, 7-5) with one hit, one run, one RBI and one walk and Lily Randall collected two RBIs.

Delanie Little spun seven innings in the circle and allowed two earned runs and struck out eight.

Grand View Christian 3, Colfax-Mingo 2

COLFAX — The Thunder scored all three of their runs in the first and they held up during a 3-2 non-conference win over Colfax-Mingo on Thursday.

The Tigerhawks scored both of their runs in the second, were out-hit 11-7 and were plagued by two errors.

Robinette led the Tigerhawks with two hits and a double. The other hits were collected by Rausch, Cunningham, Rawlins, Stackhouse and Allen.

Cunningham doubled, Rawlins scored one run and Rawlins and Stackhouse each had one RBI.

Brooklyn Yanske (4-2) took the loss in the circle after allowing three earned runs on 11 hits and one walk in seven innings.

It was the fifth straight victory for Grand View Christian, which improved to 8-5.
