C-M softball cruises past SICL rivals English Valleys, Keota

Tigerhawks lose late lead in loss to Belle Plaine

NORTH ENGLISH — The Colfax-Mingo softball team scored in all but one inning and a pair of three-run frames highlighted the Tigerhawks’ road win over English Valleys on Friday.

Colfax-Mingo used a three-run second inning to grab momentum and then put the Bears away with a three-run seventh during an 11-4 triumph in South Iowa Cedar League play.

English Valleys cut its deficit to 7-4 after four but couldn’t get any closer. The Tigerhawks out-hit the Bears 11-8 and took advantage of seven English Valleys errors. Colfax-Mingo committed two errors.

Olivia Rausch led the Tigerhawk offense with three hits, two runs, three RBIs, three steals and one walk.

Caylee Cunningham had two hits and Carley Underwood, Charlotte Donahue, Holland Robinette, Madison Stackhouse, Trinity Smith and Dakota Allen all registered one hit.

Cunningham doubled, tripled and finished with two RBIs, one walk and one steal and Underwood scored three runs, walked twice, stole three bases and scored one run.

Underwood leads Colfax-Mingo (9-5 overall, 6-3 in the SICL) with a .477 batting average and a team-high 15 steals and 23 runs. Cunningham is batting .463 with a team-best eight doubles and 40 total bases and Rausch’s batting average is .450.

Allen tripled, scored one run and had two RBIs, Stackhouse scored two runs and stole one base and Donahue doubled and scored one run. Smith and Abi Rawlins each scored one run and Rawlins walked once.

Brooklyn Yanske (4-0) tossed four innings in the circle and got the win after allowing no earned runs on two hits and one walk in four innings.

Rawlins pitched three innings and surrendered four earned runs on six hits and struck out one, walked one and hit two batters.

Imigyn Stratton led English Valleys (8-5, 6-3) with three hits and one run. Kennedy Axmear took the loss in the circle after allowing 10 runs — four earned — on 11 hits and she struck out nine.

Colfax-Mingo 12, Keota 0, three innings

COLFAX — Yanske tossed a perfect game in the circle, Robinette and Cunningham both homered and Rausch registered five RBIs during the Tigerhawks’ 12-0, three-inning win on Wednesday.

Colfax-Mingo led the SICL game 9-0 after one and scored three in the second to end the night early.

Yanske’s perfect game in the circle featured two strikeouts.

Robinette homered, doubled and had two RBIs and Rausch collected two hits, two runs, five RBIs and one steal and Underwood doubled and tallied two hits and three runs and she was hit by one pitch. Robinette now leads the team with 15 RBIs.

Stackhouse tripled, scored two runs, walked once and stole two bases, Cunningham homered, had two RBIs and walked once and Smith scored one run, had one RBI and stole one base. Donahue had one hit and one RBI, Allen walked once and scored one run and Kaylee Collins scored one run.

Keota (0-9, 0-9) has been shut out four times this season and the Eagles have scored only eight runs in nine games.

Belle Plaine 9, Colfax-Mingo 8

BELLE PLAINE — A fast start by Colfax-Mingo was not enough against host Belle Plaine during an SICL contest on Monday night.

The Tigerhawks scored three times in the first and led 6-3 after four, but the Lady Plainsmen closed the gap in the fifth and sixth before walking off their visitors with a three-run seventh during a 9-8 home win.

Colfax-Mingo out-hit Belle Plaine 14-9 but committed seven errors.

Underwood led the Tigerhawks with four hits, Rausch tallied three hits and Rawlins and Robinette each collected two hits.

Underwood chipped in one run, two RBIs and two steals, Rausch tripled, scored one run and had one RBI and Rawlins and Robinette each doubled and walked once.

Rawlins finished with one RBI, one run and one steal and Robinette collected two runs and two RBIs. Donahue and Smith each had one hit and one run, Stackhouse doubled and had one RBI and Cunningham walked once, scored one run and stole one base.

Rawlins (5-4) took the loss in the circle after allowing nine runs — three earned — on nine hits. She struck out four, walked four and hit two batters.

Belle Plaine (2-8, 2-6) got two hits, two runs and one steal from Ella Grieder and eighth-grader and No. 9 hitter Ava Grieder finished with three hits and scored three runs.

Tigerhawks split pair at Madrid tournament

MADRID — Colfax-Mingo was part of two lopsided outcomes during the Madrid tournament on Saturday, but the Tigerhawks split the two games against host Madrid and Nevada.

Colfax-Mingo opened its day with a 12-1 loss to Madrid but rebounded with an 11-1 victory over the Cubs.

In the win over Nevada, Colfax-Mingo led 3-0 after one and 6-0 after two. The Tigerhawks plated four in the fourth and ended the game after five innings.

Underwood, Cunningham and Smith combined for seven of the team’s 11 hits. Underwood finished with three hits, two runs and three steals, Cunningham added two hits, two runs, one RBI and one walk and Smith registered two hits, one run, one RBI, one walk and one steal.

The other hits came from Robinette, Rawlins, Rausch and Allen.

Robinette doubled, had three RBIs, scored one run, walked once and stole one base and she was hit by one pitch, Rawlins doubled and finished with two runs, one RBI, one walk and one steal and Rausch scored three runs, had one RBI and was hit by one pitch.

Allen collected one RBI and Collins drew one walk.

Yanske earned the pitching win after allowing one earned run on four hits in five innings. She struck out one and walked one.

The Cubs (2-11) scored their run in the fifth.

Madrid used a fast start to down Colfax-Mingo in the Tigerhawks’ opener. The Tigers scored five in the first and third to pull away.

Underwood, Rawlins and Cunningham each had one hit and one steal. Rawlins doubled and Cunningham had one RBI.

Madrid (2-13) out-hit Colfax-Mingo 11-3 and the Tigerhawks were plagued by seven errors.

Rawlins took the loss after surrendering 12 runs — five earned — on 11 hits in five innings. She struck out five, walked three and hit one batter.
