Van Dyke tosses no-hitter in Mustangs’ rout of Rams

PCM baseball splits pair of 4-3 games

JEFFERSON — Trenner Van Dyke pitched a no-hitter, Easton Webb and Nick Farver each registered two hits and the PCM baseball team hammered Greene County 12-0 in five innings on Friday.

The Mustangs improved to 2-1 in Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference play after collecting nine hits, three doubles, four steals and seven walks. They also were hit by three pitches.

Van Dyke (1-1) allowed no runs and no hits in five innings and 77 pitches. He struck out nine and walked three in the victory.

Farver finished with two hits, two runs, one RBI, one walk and one steal and Webb cranked out two hits and scored one run. Farver, Webb and Kaleb DeVries all had doubles in the win.

DeVries finished with one RBI and one walk, Adrien Robbins had one hit, one walk, one steal and three runs, Jacob Wendt tallied one hit, three runs, one walk, one hit by pitch and one steal and Zeb Padget posted one hit, two runs, three RBIs and one walk.

Jack Jungling had one hit, one RBI and one walk, Trigg Steenhoek tallied one RBI and walked once and Gabe Hobbs was hit by two pitches and scored one run. Will Owens also had an RBI.

PCM (2-3 overall, 2-1 in the conference) scored two runs in both the second and fourth innings and plated four runs in the third and fifth frames.

Greene County dropped to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

PCM 4, Nevada 3

PRAIRIE CITY — Padget needed only 82 pitches to complete seven innings against Nevada on Tuesday.

The Mustangs fell behind early but rallied with a three-run fifth and downed the Cubs 4-3 during HOIAC play.

Nevada out-hit the Mustangs 8-6 and led 3-0 after two frames. PCM scored one in the third and three in the fifth to complete the comeback.

Steenhoek had two doubles, two runs and one RBI at the plate, while Padget (1-1) allowed three earned runs on eight hits and struck out five, walked two and hit one in his seven innings of work. He also walked once and stole one base.

Farver doubled and tallied one run, one RBI and one walk, Hobbs added one hit, one run and one steal and was hit by a pitch and Wendt registered one hit, one RBI, one walk and one steal.

DeVries walked twice and Robbins had one hit and one steal.

Jackson Burlage tallied two hits and one steal to lead the Cubs, which fell to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the HOIAC.

Saydel 4, PCM 3

DES MOINES — Farver had a productive night at the plate and pitched into the seventh inning, but Saydel scored in its last at-bat to walk off the Mustangs, 4-3, in HOIAC play on Wednesday.

The two teams were tied at 1-all after three innings. Saydel scored one run in the first, fourth, fifth and seventh frames. PCM plated one run in the second and tied the game at 3-all with a two-run fifth. Both teams tallied six hits.

Farver doubled, drove in two runs and walked once at the plate and allowed four earned runs on six hits in the complete game.

Farver (0-1) struck out seven and walked five before the game ended with one out in the seventh.

Webb had two hits, including a double, Wendt walked twice and Steenhoek doubled and scored a run.

Hobbs and Jungling each had one hit and one walk. Hobbs scored one run and Jungling added an RBI, while Robbins scored one run and stole one base.

Payton Rummans had two hits and two steals to lead Saydel (4-4, 2-1) and Mason Hicks walked twice.
