STATE CENTER — Coming up five shots short, the PCM girls’ golf team’s season ended in the first round of the Class 2A Region 4 tournament on Friday.
The Mustangs shot 428 in fourth and trailed third-place Albia (423) by five shots. Denver and host West Marshall tied at the top with 367s at Lincoln Valley Golf Course.
The top two teams and the top six individuals advance to the next round. But if the host school is in the top two, a third team moves on.
Charlton shot 443 in fifth and Central Decatur, Colo-NESCO and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont did not have enough golfers for a team score.
Eleigh Davis led the Mustangs in 11th. She shot a 100. Gretchen Uitermarkt carded a 104 in 14th, Riley Johannes turned in a 109 in 19th and Meredith Chipps was the final counting scorer with a 115. Emilyn Davis (116) and Brelee Berger (122) had non-counting scores.
Denver placed all six varsity golfers in the top nine and West Marshall had five in the top 12.
West Marshall’s Allie Pfantz was the meet medalist with an 83 and Ella Meyer shot an 84 as the runner-up medalist.
