Bolts finish second, Tigerhawks eighth at Baxter Boys Invitational

Richardson leads Baxter boys at first home meet

BAXTER — Matt Richardson finished in the top two of both distance races and the Baxter boys’ track and field team won a pair of relays during its home meet on Thursday.

The Bolts finished second in the Baxter High School Boys Invitational and Colfax-Mingo placed eighth in the eight-team field.

Baxter registered three wins and nine top-three finishes. The Bolts scored 132 points in second. Lynnville-Sully won the meet with 166 points.

The rest of the eight-team field included PCM (126.5), Bondurant-Farrar (103.5), AGWSR (56), Pleasantville (55), Ankeny Christian Academy (27) and Colfax-Mingo (18).

There were issues with the timing system for the meet. Some of the races were hand-timed and others were automatically timed. There were no results for the shuttle hurdle relay and official results for the 4x400 relay were not available at press time.

Richardson had the lone individual win for the Bolts. He won the 3,200-meter run in 10 minutes, 49 seconds. He finished second in the 1,600 in 5:03.

Logan Rainsbarger was second in the 110 high hurdles with a career-best time of 15.24 seconds. He placed fourth in the 400 hurdles in a career-best 1:00.68.

Colfax-Mingo’s Xavier Woods was sixth in the longer-distance hurdle race with a career-best time of 1:02.

The Bolts doubled up in the 800. Cody Damman (season-best 2:12) and Cody Samson (season-best 2:16) were second and fifth, respectively.

In the discus, Colfax-Mingo’s Ben Keeney placed fourth with a season-best throw of 109 feet, 0 inches. Baxter’s Carter Smith was fifth with a career-best toss of 108-4 1/2.

Baxter won the 4x800 and distance medley relays. In the 4x800, Logan Jones, Samson, Eli Dee and James Esqueda won the race in 9:12.12 and the distance medley foursome of Treyton Travis, Alex Dille, Cainan Travis and Perrin Sulzle had a season-best and winning time of 4:03.14.

The Bolts also placed second in the 4x100 relay. The team of Cade Robinson, Carson Scroggins, Jake Travis and Cainan Travis finished the race in a season-best 46.1 seconds.

Baxter’s sprint medley relay team of Robinson, Dille, Scroggins and Damman finished third in a season-best 1:41.24.

The final top-two finish came in the 4x400 relay. The Bolts’ foursome unofficially finished second in a season-best 3:39.80 with Robinson, Cainan Travis, Damman and Scroggins.
