Central Iowa United soccer teams shut out by Nevada

CIU goalies combine to stop 20 shots in pair of losses

STATE CENTER — Lucas Barnes registered 12 saves, but the Central Iowa United boys’ soccer team had just two shots on goal during a 4-0 loss to Nevada on Monday during Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference play.

The Cubs scored two goals in each half and Drew Robinson had a hat trick in the victory.

Class 2A No. 4 Nevada (4-1 overall, 1-1 in the HOIAC) totaled 31 shots and put 16 of them on goal.

Central Iowa United dropped its fourth straight contest and fell to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

NEVADA — The Cubs led 7-0 at halftime and ended the match in the 43rd minute following a 10-0 home win over Central Iowa United on Monday during Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference play.

Avery Anderson led the 1A No. 4 Cubs with three goals, Aubrey Thompson tallied two goals and one assist and Tori Meinecke added one goal and three assists.

Nevada (4-0, 1-0) totaled 28 shots and placed 18 shots on goal.

Cassidy Smith registered eight saves for CIU (0-3, 0-1), but the offense did not have a shot on goal.
