Newton girls earn first win, shut out Williamsburg

Aliviah Ross scores twice in Cardinals’ road victory over Raiders

WILLIAMSBURG — Aliviah Ross scored twice and Natalee Freese stopped all four shots she faced and the Newton girls’ soccer team got into the win column on Tuesday following a 2-0 road win over Williamsburg.

The Cardinals led the non-conference match 1-0 at halftime and then doubled their lead with another goal in the second half.

The defense posted its first shutout of the season and has allowed just one goal in the first two matches of the season.

The Cardinal offense registered 13 shots on goal. Taytem Seitz and Tori White delivered the first assists of their prep careers. The two goals by Ross also were the first two of her prep career.

Freese finished with four saves in her 80 minutes in goal.

It was the season opener for Williamsburg. Newton improved to 1-1 after the victory.
