LE GRAND — Conner Maston posted a blazing fast time in the 400-meter dash and had one of his best marks ever to win the high jump during the East Marshall Early Bird Relays on Tuesday.
The two wins by Maston were the only victories for the Hawks, but the Lynnville-Sully boys’ track and field team registered nine top-five finishes in all and placed fifth in the 10-team field.
Denver won the meet with 124 points, while BCLUW (100), Dike-New Hartford (76), Iowa Valley (72) and Lynnville-Sully (53) completed the top five.
Woodward-Granger (47), AGWSR (44), East Marshall (43), BGM (25) and Gladbrook-Reinbeck (4) rounded out the field.

Maston’s winning time in the 400 was clocked in 50.82 seconds. He won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 2 inches and finished fourth in the 200 in 23.55.
It was the second time this season Maston finished the 400 in less than 51 seconds. His best time of 50.81 currently ranks third in Class 1A. The 6-2 mark in the high jump is tied for fourth.
Hendrick Lowry had the other individual runner-up finish as he was second in the 1,600 with a time of 5 minutes, 4.74 seconds.
The Hawks’ 4x100 relay team of Kyle Squires, C.J. Nikkel, Caleb Rea and Maston also placed second in 46.6 seconds.
Squires ended up fourth in the 100 (11.98) and the shot put (42-0).
