STORY CITY — A slow start and too many turnovers plagued the PCM boys’ basketball team during its Class 2A District 5 semifinal matchup with second-ranked Roland-Story on Friday.
The Mustangs fell behind by double-digits after one quarter and never recovered during a 67-46 season-ending loss.
PCM trailed 22-12 after one and went into halftime down by 17. Roland-Story won the second half by four points.
Gavin Van Gorp led the Mustangs with 15 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals and Grant Van Veen added 11 points, nine rebounds and two assists.
August Stock tallied nine points, five boards and three steals, Jacob Wendt chipped in four points, six rebounds and four assists and Kaleb DeVries collected three rebounds and four assists.
Shay Burns added three points and two rebounds and Jack Jungling pulled down two boards off the bench.
PCM (8-15) shot 37 percent from the floor, connected on 5-of-19 from 3-point range and sank 7-of-13 from the free-throw line. The Mustangs committed 16 turnovers.
Roland-Story (22-1) got 23 points from Isaiah Naylor and Jonovan Wilkinson added 13 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists and Luke Patton grabbed 14 boards.
The Norse shot 43 percent from the floor, canned 9-of-31 from 3 and hit 4-of-12 from the foul line. They turned the ball over 10 times and out-rebounded PCM 43-31.
Roland-Story, which has defeated the Mustangs nine straight times but still trails in the all-time series, next plays South Hardin in the district championship game at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Gilbert.
