C-M’s McGill sets new pin record in Tigerhawks’ road quadrangular

Fitch, McGill and Isaiah Baucom all go 3-0 as Colfax-Mingo downs host Spartans

MAXWELL — John McGill set Colfax-Mingo’s record for most pins in a season during a road quadrangular on Monday.

McGill won three times by fall to set the new benchmark and the Colfax-Mingo wrestling team downed Collins-Maxwell for its lone win of the night.

The Tigerhawks defeated Collins-Maxwell 54-21 but lost 54-30 to Martensdale-St. Marys and fell 48-24 to West Central Valley.

McGill’s three pins put him at 31 for the season, which moved him in front of Michael Bucklin. Bucklin registered 30 pins in the 2003-04 season.

Against Collins-Maxwell, the Tigerhawks were 2-2 in contested matches and they accepted seven forfeits. There was one double forfeit and Collins-Maxwell took two forfeits.

The contested wins for Colfax-Mingo came from McGill (160) and Cason Fitch (113), who both won by pin. They each scored their falls late in the first period.

James Cherveny (126), Seth Brant (145), Davion Long (152), Tate Carlson (170), Austin Lane (182), Isaiah Baucom (195) and Jermaine Cross (285) all took forfeits.

In the loss to Martensdale-St. Marys, the Tigerhawks were 1-6 in contested matches and Fitch, Lane, Isaiah Baucom and Donavan Baucom (220) all took forfeits.

McGill had the lone win and it was a pin in 1 minute, 7 seconds. The Blue Devils accepted three forfeits.

West Central Valley had a 3-1 advantage in forfeit victories and there was one double forfeit in that dual.

Colfax-Mingo finished 3-6 in contested matches with those wins coming from Fitch, McGill and Isaiah Baucom. All three Tigerhawks won by fall.

McGill, Fitch and Isaiah Baucom each finished 3-0 for the night, while Lane and Cross both were 2-1 with two forfeit wins.

McGill (37-5) won three times by fall, Fitch (33-7) scored two pins and Isaiah Baucom won twice by forfeit.
