Tigerhawks win first-ever SICL girls wrestling tournament

Five Colfax-Mingo grapplers win individual titles at North Mahaska

NEW SHARON — Five Tigerhawks claimed individual titles, none of them were worst than third and Colfax-Mingo’s girls wrestling team won the first-ever South Iowa Cedar League girls wrestling tournament on Monday.

The Tigerhawks had three less grapplers entered than BGM and still edged the Bears by nine points.

BGM entered two girls at 130 and three at 135, but chasing points to run down the Tigerhawks was unsuccessful.

There was a total of 36 wrestlers in the tournament and Colfax-Mingo and BGM accounted for 23 of them.

Lily Webster (100), Devan Chadwick (115), Emmalyn Buchman (170) and Emma Cook (235) all finished 2-0 and won individual titles, while Cadence Linn won her title at 110 pounds with a 2-1 day.

Webster, Chadwick, Buchman and Cook all defeated the same opponent twice to win their titles.

Webster was 2-0 with a win by fall and a win by medical forfeit over BGM’s Miley Stewart.

Chadwick was on the mat for less than 2 minutes against BGM’s Leah Hoag and won twice by fall.

Buchman also won twice by fall against Iowa Valley’s Dakota Pedersen. She was on the mat for 2 minutes, 26 seconds.

Cook pinned BGM’s Abigail Slater twice and neither match lasted more than 1 minute.

Linn was 2-1 against Iowa Valley’s Kylie Loffer. She won 7-2 and then locked up first place with a win by fall.

Amelia Strickland (125) and Shy Steck (130) both finished second and Lillie Jones (135), Lily Brenner (140) and Kaydence Andersen (190) all ended up third.

Steck was 2-1 with two pins and Strickland, Jones and Brenner all won once by pin. Andersen was 0-2.
