NEVADA — The PCM girls’ basketball team charged back against Nevada on Friday, but a slow start was too much to overcome during a 44-40 loss in Heart of Iowa Conference action.
The Mustangs trailed 18-8 after one quarter. They won the second 9-8 and then outscored the Cubs 23-18 in the second half.
PCM was plagued by a tough shooting night. The Mustangs made only 27 percent of their shots from the floor, connected on 4-of-19 from 3-point range and missed eight free throws. They also turned the ball over only 13 times.
Tori Lindsay led the Mustangs (5-9 overall, 3-5 in the conference) with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals and Addison Steenhoek added nine points and five steals.

Paige Steenhoek tallied eight points and five rebounds, Sophia Steenhoek chipped in six points and five rebounds and Madie Reed registered three points and four boards. Evelyn Burkett pulled down two rebounds.
Nevada (6-7, 5-3) completed the season sweep after winning by eight back in early December.

Nevada 60, PCM 33
A slow start and unfortunate finish by PCM’s boys’ basketball team allowed Nevada to pull away on Friday.
The Cubs led 15-2 after one and outscored the Mustangs 15-7 in the fourth during a 60-33 home win.
Jacob Wendt scored 11 points to lead the Mustangs, while Kaleb DeVries scored a career-high nine points and Grant Van Veen put in seven points.
PCM (3-11, 2-6) shot 33 percent from the floor, made 2-of-11 from 3 and connected on 5-of-14 from the free-throw line.

Jacob Khounsourath led the Cubs (9-3, 7-1) with 20 points and four rebounds, while Easton Gray put in 12 points and John Nelson had seven points and six boards.
Nevada shot 39 percent from the floor but made 10 treys. The Cubs were 6-of-14 from the foul line and committed 17 turnovers.
Nevada completed the season sweep after winning by 10 back in early December.
