Smith gets 100th career win, Baxter wrestlers finish sixth at WACO

Four Bolts claim top-three finishes at WACO Warrior Invitational

WAYLAND – Cole Smith got his 100th career victory, Aiden McFadden and Smith both were second at their weight classes and the Baxter wrestling team placed sixth at the WACO Warrior Invitational on Saturday.

The Bolts entered 11 wrestlers into the tournament and scored 96 points in the 16-team field.

Smith’s 100th win came at 126 pounds. He was 2-1 for the day and placed second after a win by fall and a major decision victory.

McFadden was the runner-up at 285. He won 7-2 and lost 7-2. His loss came against state-ranked Skyler Young of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.

Skyler Stoll and Callyn Bishop each placed third at their weights.

Stoll was 2-1 at 138. He lost in the semifinals but his two wins were 12-6 and 13-4.

Bishop split his two matches at 170. He won by injury time and lost by fall.

Alex Dille (113) and Jack Anderson (145) finished fourth and Michael Wilhelm (182) was fifth.

Wilhelm was 2-1 at his weight class with two wins by pin. Anderson’s 1-2 day included a win by fall. Dille was 0-2.

Maddox Peters won twice at 120 but did not place in the top six. Ruger Kincaid (126), Koltin Hurd (132) and Jacob Hiemstra (152) all were 0-2.

Washington won the team championship with 166.5 points despite entering just nine wrestlers. Mediapolis (162.5), Wapello (151.5), Mid-Prairie (111) and EBF (99) completed the top five. Baxter was open at 106, 160, 195 and 220.
