Colfax-Mingo wrestling sweeps home triangular on Senior Night

McGill, Fitch, Brant lead Tigerhawks to wins over HLV, Collins-Maxwell

COLFAX — Colfax-Mingo’s boys wrestling team swept a home triangular on Thursday thanks in large part to 14 forfeit wins.

Seven Tigerhawks were 2-0 for the night and Colfax-Mingo was 4-6 in contested matches during relatively easy dual victories over HLV and Collins-Maxwell.

Colfax-Mingo accepted eight forfeits in the 60-12 win over HLV and took six more in the 48-30 triumph over the Spartans.

Seth Brant (145) and John McGill (160) both registered wins by pin against HLV and Donavan Baucom (220), Jermaine Cross (285), Josue Rodriguez (106), Cason Fitch (113), Cesar Buenrostro (120), James Cherveny (126), Austin Lane (170) and Isaiah Baucom (182) all accepted forfeits.

Colfax-Mingo was 2-2 in contested matches against HLV and went 2-4 against Collins-Maxwell.

In the win over the Spartans, Fitch and McGill both won by fall and Cross, Rodriguez, Brant, Lane, Isaiah Baucom and Davion Long all took forfeits.

McGill (29-4) spent a total of 71 seconds on the mat as he was 2-0 with two pins. Brant’s win by fall was clocked in 40 seconds and Fitch secured his pin in 1 minute, 6 seconds.

Fitch (25-6) and Brant joined McGill with two wins and Cross, Rodriguez, Lane (18-8) and Isaiah Baucom all were 2-0 with two forfeits.

McGill, who re-entered the rankings this week at No. 12, has won 18 straight matches.
