Horras leads C-M football to second straight win

Tigerhawks close out 2022 season with blowout road win over Cardinal

ELDON — A career night by junior wide receiver Curtis Horras highlighted Colfax-Mingo’s road win over Cardinal on Friday.

The Tigerhawks ended their 2022 season with back-to-back wins after dominating the final three quarters during a 41-7 non-district victory.

Horras hauled in 13 catches and set new school records for receiving yards in a game and receiving touchdowns in a game. The junior wideout gained 284 yards on his 13 receptions and grabbed five TD passes.

Cael Bracewell, who also threw for a career-high in yards, scored five touchdowns total as Colfax-Mingo (2-7) outscored the Comets 27-0 in the second half.

Horras ranks first in Class A with a school-record 1,058 receiving yards and ranks first in Class A with a school-record 15 touchdown catches. His 49 receptions and 21.6 yards per catch average both rank second in Class A.

The 13 catches by Horras tie for second in school history and his 21 career TD catches and 1,754 career receiving yards also sit second in school history.

Bracewell passed for a career-best 336 yards, matched a career-high with four TD passes and threw two picks. He also rushed for 42 yards and a score on nine carries.

It was the third career 300-yard passing game for Bracewell and eight of his 11 TD passes this season have come in the past two weeks.

Shane Hostetter threw one pass in the game and it was a 62-yard TD completion to Horras. Hostetter also had six catches for 68 yards. Conner Wood grabbed two passes for 27 yards.

Defensively, Bracewell led the Tigerhawks with 7.5 tackles and two tackles for loss and Horras contributed three tackles and snagged two interceptions.

Brock Nichol, the team’s leading tackler, finished with six tackles, Wood had five tackles, Xavier Woods collected 4.5 tackles and Hostetter chipped in four tackles. Donovan Baucom also had 3.5 tackles and one sack.

The Tigerhawks’ roster does not include a senior. They grabbed a considerable amount of momentum for 2023 with two blowout wins in the final two weeks of the season.

Cardinal has scored just 83 points this fall. The Comets (0-9) lost eight of their nine games by double-digits.
