Lynnville-Sully football cruises past Colfax-Mingo on Homecoming

Fourth-ranked Hawks use fast start, strong run game to down Tigerhawks

SULLY — A 272-yard rushing night propelled Lynnville-Sully’s football team to a 58-0 win over Colfax-Mingo on Friday during Class A District 6 action.

The Class A No. 4 Hawks scored all but seven points in the first half, led 30-0 after one quarter and improved to 6-0 for the first time since beginning the season 9-0 in 2017.

The Hawks’ Homecoming game started well for the hosts. Lynnville-Sully forced C-M into a three and out on its first possession and then the Hawks went 40 yards in two plays. After a Tigerhawk penalty, Corder Noun Harder started the drive with a 31-yard run and then scored one play later from 4 yards out.

Noun Harder rushed for 110 yards and scored three touchdowns on his six carries.

The Tigerhawks went three and out again on their next possession thanks in part to a third-down sack by Bryce Richards. One play later, Lannon Montgomery hit Conner Maston on a go route for a 54-yard touchdown.

The third Hawk touchdown came on a two-play, 58-yard drive. C.J. Nikkel opened the drive with a 41-yard run and Noun Harder scored on a 17-yard TD run one play later.

C-M’s Cael Bracewell connected with Trey Hockemeier on back-to-back pass plays on the Tigerhawks’ next drive, but they went three and out again.

Lynnville-Sully (6-0 overall, 4-0 in the district) needed only two plays to go 60 yards on its next drive. Noun Harder capped the possession with a 56-yard TD run.

The Tigerhawks’ next drive ended on a Terran Gosselink interception. C-M’s defense kept the Hawks out of the end zone, but Lucas Sieck booted a 26-yard field goal to make it 30-0 after one.

The Hawks’ defense forced another three and out. This time, Mathias Torres blocked the punt. Nikkel scored one play later on a 36-yard TD run.

Nikkel finished with 79 yards and the TD on four carries.

Another one-play drive after a C-M three and out included a 46-yard TD run by Homecoming King Kyle Squires.

Squires finished with 50 yards and the TD on two carries.

The Tigerhawks picked up their initial first down on their next possession. On third down and 12, Bracewell found Hockemeier for 12 yards and a facemask penalty gave the Tigerhawks 15 more.

Curtis Horras hauled in a 24-yard catch on the next play, but Noun Harder picked off Bracewell four plays later and returned it 69 yards for a touchdown.

That was the final score of the first half and the Hawks added a 27-yard TD run from Aidan Stock in the third to cap the scoring.

Stock finished with 41 yards and a score on five carries. The Hawks averaged 12 yards per carry in the win.

Montgomery was 2-of-3 through the air for 85 yards and the 54-yard TD pass to Maston. Caleb Rea also had one catch for 31 yards.

Maston’s only punt went 43 yards. Sieck was 1-of-1 in field goal attempts and connected on 5-of-6 extra points.

Lane Fisk led the Hawk defense with five tackles, one sack and 2.5 tackles for loss. Squires registered five tackles, Torres tallied three tackles, one sack and 2.5 tackles for loss and Richards registered three tackles and one sack.

Keegan DeWitt finished with three tackles and Noun Harder and Gosselink each snagged a pick.

Colfax-Mingo (0-6, 0-4) was limited to 63 total yards. Bracewell threw for 53 yards and had three tackles and a fumble recovery on defense.

Horras hauled in two passes for 28 yards, Hockemeier grabbed two passes for 13 yards and Joe Earles and Brock Nichol each registered three tackles.
