Hawks open district play with rout of North Mahaska

Class A No. 5 Lynnville-Sully rushes for 293 yards on 29 carries in the victory

NEW SHARON — Corder Noun Harder didn’t waste time putting his fingerprints on the Hawks’ district football opener on Friday night.

Noun Harder returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a score and added three rushing touchdowns in the first quarter and Class A No. 5 Lynnville-Sully used a strong first half to roll past North Mahaska, 50-6, in the Class A District 6 opener for both squads.

The Hawks led 29-0 after the first quarter and led 43-0 at halftime.

Noun Harder took 14 seconds to go 90 yards on the opening kickoff of the game. He scored on a 52-yard run 3.5 minutes later and scored on a 34-yard run with 5 minutes left in the period.

The final TD of the first came on a Noun Harder 29-yard run with 11 seconds on the clock.

Kyle Squires ran in the two-point conversion after the kickoff return and Lucas Sieck booted the extra point on the other three scores.

In the second, Conner Maston caught a 53-yard TD pass from Lannon Montgomery and Caleb Rea scored on a 10-yard TD run.

Sieck booted the first PAT through the uprights and Valentijn Niet added the second point after touchdown.

Niet kicked the final PAT in the third after C.J. Nikkel scored on a 36-yard run.

The Hawks (2-0 overall, 1-0 in the district) rushed for 293 yards on 29 carries. North Mahaska was held to 157 total yards.

Noun Harder rushed for 145 yards and three scores on eight carries, Nikkel added 96 yards and a TD on six carries and Squires gained 28 yards on nine carries. Rea had 31 yards on three carries.

Montgomery’s only pass attempt was the completion to Maston which covered 53 yards. Sieck was 1-for-1 for 19 yards. Maston caught both passes for 72 yards.

Terran Gosselink led the defense with a team-best 6.5 tackles. Squires added four tackles and three tackles for loss and Rea chipped in four tackles and two tackles for loss.

Maston recovered a fumble and Keegan DeWitt snagged an interception. Dawson James collected three tackles.

Paul DeJong led the Warhawks (0-2, 0-1) with 116 rushing yards on 22 carries.
