PCM football cruises past host Davis County

DeVries scores four touchdowns in his varsity debut

BLOOMFIELD — A 302-yard rushing performance and a fast start powered PCM’s football team past Davis County in the season opener for both squads on Friday night.

In the battle of the Mustangs, PCM led its hosts 21-0 after the first quarter and cruised to a 48-14 road victory.

PCM scored the game’s first 42 points before Davis County outscored the Mustangs 14-6 in the fourth.

In his varsity debut, Kaleb DeVries threw for 156 yards and three scores and rushed for 124 and another touchdown.

Adrien Robbins added 127 yards and two scores on the ground and caught a 47-yard TD pass and Brayden Nessa and Griffin Olson also grabbed TD catches.

Robbins opened the scoring with a 19-yard TD run midway through the first quarter.

DeVries’ 48-yard TD run with 3:10 to play in the first made it 14-0 and the lead extended to 21-0 after DeVries hooked up with Nessa for the 62-yard pitch and catch.

The 14-0 second quarter included a 29-yard TD pass play from DeVries to Olson and a 61-yard touchdown run by Robbins.

In the third, the lone points came on a 47-yard TD pass from DeVries to Robbins. PCM’s fourth-quarter touchdown was an Easton Webb 2-yard scoring run.

Webb threw for 23 yards and rushed for 17, while Allias Nolin hauled in a 16-yard catch.

The Mustangs (1-0) rushed for 302 yards and gained 481 total yards. Davis County (0-1) was limited to 120 rushing yards and 165 total yards.

Donovan Nickelson, an offensive lineman who helped PCM dominate in the running game, led the defense with 7.5 tackles and one tackle for loss. Trenner Van Dyke, Gavin VanBaale, Will Vanderpool and Mickey Mackewich all had three tackles and one tackle for loss.
