TRAER — Baxter’s baseball team fell behind 5-0 in the first inning. But a fierce rally put the Bolts in position to win before North Tama recovered to down their visitors in eight innings.
The Bolts led 6-5 after six innings but couldn’t hold the lead during an 8-7 road loss in Iowa Star Conference South Division play on Friday.
Baxter cranked out eight hits and committed three errors. North Tama had 11 hits in the win.
Cael Wishman led the Bolts (1-8 overall, 0-3 in conference play) with two hits, one double, one run and one RBI and Rory Heer doubled, scored two runs and stole one base.
Cody Damman finished with one hit, one run, one RBI and one steal, Ben Richardson tallied one run, one RBI and one stolen base and Cael Shepley registered one hit and one RBI.
Perrin Sulzle had one hit and one run, Kolton Hill tallied one hit and one walk and Jake Travis walked once and was hit by a pitch. Cade Robinson scored one run and stole one base and Nate McMinamen had one hit.
Travis started on the mound and allowed three runs — two earned — on six hits with two strikeouts and one walk in 4 2/3 innings.
Damman took the loss after surrendering five runs — two earned — on four hits with two strikeouts and one walk in three innings.
North Tama (10-4, 4-0) got three hits and three runs from Gabe Kopriva and Devin McKinley pitched into the eighth inning and got the win after striking out six and allowing two earned runs. He threw 113 pitches.
BCLUW 8, Baxter 3
BAXTER — The Bolts lost a two-run lead after BCLUW scored five runs in the seventh during an 8-3 non-conference home loss on Tuesday.
Baxter trailed 1-0 after one but took a lead with a two-run fourth and a one-run fifth.
The Comets (1-7) tied the score in the sixth and took advantage of two Baxter errors.
Damman had two of the Bolts’ seven hits and finished with one run, one RBI and two steals.
Heer, Richardson, Shepley, McMinamen and Wishman had the other hits. Heer and Wishman both stole one base and Richardson scored one run. Travis was hit by a pitch and he scored a run.
Shepley started on the mound and took the loss after allowing six runs — three earned — on seven hits and struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings.
Damman got the final two outs but not before surrendering two earned runs and walking two.
Don Bosco 25, Baxter 10, 4 innings
GILBERTVILLE — The Bolts didn’t have trouble scoring runs against Class 1A No. 7 Don Bosco on Wednesday. But the Dons also scored runs at will during a 25-10 home win.
Baxter took an early lead with a three-run first, but Don Bosco (13-2) countered with a seven-run bottom of the frame. The Dons also plated four in the second and 13 in the third to end the game after four.
Travis had three of the Bolts’ seven hits and finished with two doubles, two runs and four RBIs.
Heer, Damman, Shepley and Aiden Johnson had the other hits. Damman added three runs, one RBI and two walks and Shepley doubled and collected one run, two RBIs and one walk.
Heer added one walk, one run and two steals, Johnson scored one run and had one RBI and Richardson and Robinson each walked once and scored one run. McMinamen and Jace Bottorff each walked once.
Four Don Bosco players had two or more hits in the win. Landon Frost led the Dons with three hits, five runs and three RBIs and Ty Purdy homered, scored three runs and finished with three RBIs.
